I had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Susan Smith and her Medical Assistant, Lily, last week. Lily generously extended compassion, knowledge and professionalism. Dr. Smith immediately initiated my visit a warm and trustworthy patient- doctor experience. Dr. Smith is a very knowledgeable, compassionate and an absolute delight to work with. It was a pleasure to initiate care with Dr. Smith at Asante Hematology!

The doctors I have had certainly haven’t followed their supposed philosophy of being patient centered or of promoting hope. In looking up info myself on questions I have asked, I find answers that were given were not complete or even accurate. I have come away wondering how much they have known about my conditions. Being a RN and working with many many doctors in my career, I don’t expect any doctor to know everything about every disease. But if they don’t know and it isn’t one of their interest areas, I expect them to be honest and say so; and then do one of two things— either go look up info themselves or go ask a colleague who might know. Or send me to someone else. I found the doctors I saw have little empathy. If they don’t want to treat you for the disease you have at that moment, I was surprised they didn’t want to suggest any palliative treatments for the symptoms I was having. I also feel this clinic’s policy of allowing the patient to switch doctors only once borders on malpractice when you hear all the time that the patient needs to feel comfortable in discussing their condition with the doctor, making it a team relationship. I realize not all the doctors in this clinic are like the two I have had, or that all their patients feel the same as I do, but they certainly have given me a negative impression.

These doctors know what they are doing and they will help you out anyway they can. The office staff iare always friendly and helpful. They really make an effort to make you feel welcomed. When you leave messages they actually call you back. Working for a cancer group is a hard stressful environment with patients not feeling well but they are always cheerful and smiling. I've been a patient for 13 years and they treat their patients like family.

Make sure to to plan anything for 2 hours during visit. Waiting , waiting and more waiting is what you’ll be doing.

The doctors are knowledgable. The office staff seem to need more training. Multiple scheduling issues. It took 2 days for a nurse to return a call about an infection. It took a month to get a letter for FMLA. I made a call to have the nurse practicioner I had seen the day before to call me. The receptionist insisted I had to ask her specific questions so she could call back with the answers. My questions had to do with statements in MyChart notes that I needed clarified. Then the receptionist got defensive and said none of those things were in the notes. I was reading it from the notes in MyChart. Personnally, I think what my doctor, or nurse practioner and I talk about is none of the receptionist's business. Lack of professionalism in the office staff.

My husband has stage 2 cancer. He has been to rogue valley urologists in Medford. I highly suggest you stay away from that group. They never answer their phones and then when they do they're very rude. The doctors never get back to you and all they want to do is surgery after surgery after surgery. Skip over to HOA in grants pass, they have been no help at all. He has been waiting over an hour to get his chemotherapy. the whole thing about having cancer in this small area between grants pass and Medford is that nobody cares. I have called them numerous times to get my husband into a support group. They have never done anything for us as far as that goes. They made promises, but they never went through with anything. My question is how can people who specialize in cancer be so unusually cruel? HOA in grants pass is okay, and that's it, just okay. But the urologists never call you to see how you're doing like they do in many other states. If you choose Medford Road valley urology, stay away from Dr Bouie, stay away from Dr Brandt. Bouie told my husband you've got cancer scheduling surgery for Monday and he went to walk out the door and left my husband sitting there in shock. Then I called and spoke to the director of rogue valley urology, who is very kind and helpful. She talked to my husband she got him in to see the only doctor that she personally would recommend. Dr Brandt. Lovely young African American woman. she got him to do the cystoscopy the very next week. But she was pretty much just as unkind as buoie, she basically was in there for 10 minutes, 10 minutes. How does that even work. Came back and told me that he had cancer. Wasn't waiting around to answer any questions. I'm the one who called social workers, case management nurses, and directors. anyone who could possibly help my husband. All I can say is that when God forbid you're diagnosed with cancer leave the state of Oregon and go to UCLA or USC. Go to phoenix, go to seattle, but do not deal with these people. It breaks my heart, on so many levels. I really thought the grants pass HOA was going to be on our side. So far my calls have fallen on deaf ears, since they never set us up with a support group for my husband of any kind. my husband's initial pcp, dropped the ball period and I believe that this cancer could have been noticed by his family practitioner had he not dropped the ball. My husband went in for pain, since there was no bacteria or blood they did nothing. he went back 2 weeks later and then there was blood and other bacteria. Took a test told him that he had a urinary tract infection and gave him 10 days worth of antibiotics. They told him the antibiotics would start working by the third day. by the third day my husband was in so much pain he couldn't even move. did I mention that my husband was given a CAT scan of his lungs his liver his pancreas and his kidneys, but not his bladder. Even after complaining of this pain. then it took forever to get to the urologist and then we had to go through four different urologists, and found a decent one. Still no bedside manner, everything is just matter of fact. I really believe that the rogue valley urologists, his pcp, and HOA has dropped the ball. we would have loved to have gone to ucla, but where would he recuperate after a 6-hour operation and a 5-day hospital stay? This whole place is just a s*** show. The whole Gambit of "specialists". if I could get a lawyer I would start with his pcp. My husband had this pain and blood in his urine for 4 months before they did anything. Very unhappy.

This is the one Dr. that I love and owe my life too. Dr. Poisson was amazing, friendly and always made me feel special. Their office took such good care of me and I’m overdue to see him. I’m almost at my 5 yr point so God willing, I’ll be cancer free really soon! I cannot begin to say enough about this group of Oncologist’s, the staff, the people who did my Chemo, the people that drew my blood, to the receptionists the support we got and of course, GEORGE!!! George helped me so much from day one and helped me get thru all of the fear and anxiety I had. God bless everyone in Medford and Grants Pass for helping me to make it thru stage 3 breast cancer. So thankful and grateful! You’re all the best, THANK YOU!!!!!

if a person has cancer they help you stay comfortable dealing with the pain, but when a person has other blood problems, like clots in the legs and a filter that has been clogged and fractured in three places and they dont know how to remove it and it creates so much pain, they wont help! Find another place that shows a little more compassion for people.

My Aunt Vivian was diagnosed in January of 2016. After major surgery in Springfield, she was referred to HOA to continue her treatments. Dr. Nelli and the other doctors have been wonderful. If I could give 10 🌟, I most certainly would.

Impersonable! Don't care about me! They don't care if I have to find transportation & go between Asante for infusion & Providence for radiation & other services. Rude staff! If I could, I'd switch but unfortunately, they're the only crappy office in town. Karma's gonna getcha someday cuz some of you might find yourself on the other side like me.
