*Negative Review of Safeway*
I recently had a disappointing experience at my local Safeway store. My boyfriend and I visited the store to purchase a cake and other items. At the self-checkout, we informed the staff that we would be waiting for 30 minutes to catch the bus, and they removed the cake from our screen as we asked. However, when we finished checking out and asked to retrieve the cake back to where it goes to make sure it stayed cold, the staff refused, citing store policy.
The situation escalated when a staff member approached us in the pre-made food area. In an aggressive manner, seemingly accusing us of shoplifting. We felt uncomfortable and decided to leave the store without the cake and without a sandwich. When we called to complain, the staff member involved disputed our account, claiming we had lied about the wait time. We don't know if he's really the manager but he could have handle the situation better over the phone.
A week later, when we walked through the store to avoid bad weather, the same staff member pointed us out to his coworkers, making us feel unwelcome.
Additionally, the store's fish section has a persistent and overwhelming odor that permeates the entire store. The prices are also uncompetitive compared to other local grocery stores.
Given these experiences, I would not recommend this Safeway location to others. The store's customer service and policies need improvement, and the persistent issues with the fish section's odor and pricing strategy are significant drawbacks.

The manager discriminated me and my girlfriend and then lied about it when we called later confronting him. The meat section always smells like rotting fish and everything is overpriced. If you have self respect, go somewhere else

Given that this is not the first Safeway I have had this issue with, I am assuming fault lies with corporate management and not local management. That said...
My family was here the other day to get groceries. We had a full cart... way more than is permitted to go throught he self-checkout. Unfortunately there was only one cashier with a giant line. We waited about 40 minutes before abandoning our cart in line so we could walk next door to Trader Joe's. TJ had EIGHT cashiers, and as a result no lines. After we were done we went across the shopping center to Sunset Liquor where we saw 3 cashiers.
It's kind of crazy to me that a store the size of Safeway only hires one cashier, while Trader Joe's and a Liquor store can afford 8 and 3 times as many cashiers respectively. Making your customers wait in line longer than it took them to fill up a shopping cart is TERRIBLE business.

Worst chinese food I've ever had. Rice and chow main was completely flavorless. Orange chicken was so over cooked it was near rock like. Never agian.

Was there on a weekend with my son register line 2
I just had a family loss recently & my mind was all over the place ..as I was in line I sent my son to go get an ice bag cause we were next as he came back the red headed older lady (cashier said “don’t do that , he doesn’t need to grab it I can put the item in the system without doing that , I said I wasn’t aware.Thought u had to actually have the item but okay. As she continues I get confused on the groceries before mine as she’s scanning while I’m talking to my son I step forward not realizing the lady before me wasn’t finish (it was definitely a mommy Brain day)
Cashier looked at me and said wait a second isn’t this her stuff I said oh my gosh I’m srry and stepped back into place she noticed the lady behind me laughed so she winked at her and said something more sarcastic to make me feel more degrading . .I ignored it embarrassed but kept my cool she KEPT making comments and when the lady ahead of me finished up cashier said “don’t worry about being charged for the bags you had GOOD intentions & that’s how I do it in my line””
(meaning I didn’t ) My son caught that being 10 years old and looked up at me ..again the costumer behind me laughed. I felt bullied by 2 Karen’s ..As she scanned my items next she FORGOT the ICE I was confused I thought you said you didn’t need to see the product to add it? She said “welp you weren’t holding it up so I didn’t see it “ ..very snobby ( contradicting herself from the beginning..I thought to myself .. now who is the idiot ? lol
..idk if it was her menopause or if it was a prejudice situation that only I can feel. All around Horrible experience & when I spoke to the employee they told me it wasn’t the first complaint they’ve had about her .. old hag needs a nap or training on proper service again.

Has a lot of space and shelves are very full. Very nice fruits and veges. Ordered 3 lbs of crab for my husband and daughter for Xmas and my husband said it wasn't very fresh and the meat was a little brown.

I like going to this Safeway for small bits of grocery shopping. I don’t like being refused a return even though I have the receipt on my app. Corporate needs to take care of this. We got a manager that thinks they can just refuse to acknowledge I have access to all my receipts on the digital app. About to be 2024. I don’t care if you don’t like computers and don’t trust them. I won’t be back until whoever runs these Safeway’s allows returns under the return policy with my receipt, digital or physical. Absolutely outrageous.
