Trash experienceNeeded some lumber for a job on our house. We bought too much and had to return a pack of shingles.Dropped it off on the 17th and was told that the boss needs to inspect the lumber before the refund can be issued. Okay, that's no problem. But it was a Friday with Thanksgiving occuring the following week. So I was told that the return might take a little longer.Well we waited about two weeks and still no phone call. I called on the 30th to get an update and was told that it's the end of the month so we should be getting a call back soon.O....kay. So we have to wait the weekend to be over, for the holiday to pass and for the end of the month to arrive before our refund can be processed. Make this make sense.Called today on the 5thSpoke to someone named Jake who was actually very polite and sympathetic to our frustration, but couldn't give a firm date on when we would get our refund. I told him that we needed a better answer than that and he offered to let us speak to the boss.I agreed and waited for him to be available. The man who picked up, Paul, was very dry and had basically zero customer service. I explained the situation and asked for clarity on when we could expect a refund as we were starting to feel like we were getting the run-aroundHe says that he'll get the refund processed and we should be getting a call tomorrow. We've waited almost three weeks already and have not gotten a firm answer about when the return should be expected, so I attempt to clarify and ask "So we can expect a call from you tomorrow?"In an exacerbated and annoyed tone, he replies "That's what I just said"I've worked in customer service for 20 years; you don't make your customer wait almost three weeks for a refund and then act put-out when they ask for clarification on that refundSuper obnoxious behavior and frustrating to say the least. Like I'm being unreasonable for attempting to solidify the expectations they're setting.By comparison, we also had to do a return at home Depot for some lumber we didn't use. Arguably one the easiest returns of my life with peppy customer service from the girl at the register. I'm gobsmacked by this entire experience. We hate Home Depot but I have to give credit where credit is due.I want to support local businesses but I would absolutely go someplace else if you want a positive experience. It's just been a headache. Will not do business with again and absolutely would not recommend

I purchase my lumber packages from Hammer Lumber for my carpentry contracting business. Paul, Dan, Eric and the rest of the staff are personable, helpful, and friendly. We also get the most beautiful cedar boards for decking, trim, and custom carpentry. Hammer Lumber's product quality is consistently very good and they stock products that we aren't able to find in town. They can also create materials lists for projects right from your plans. Top notch, highly recommended!!

Tried giving these guys our business but within just one phone call the guy who answered the phone (on 5-1-19 around 4:30pm) was snarky and rude about a simple product question, asked nicely. We’re pretty easy customers, so if it gets that insulting that instantly, than we’ll go elsewhere and support another business.

The guy that I worked with at the front desk is very dry and not polite at all. Clearly he does not care about his customers. Ended up buying some plywood and when I got home to measure it, found out I was sold the cheap 47.5" instead of the true 48". This caused me having to rip up my subfloor and start over. I have also spoken with several well respected contractor's in the area and they have all said to stay away from Hammer (to use Stringfield or Square deal). I took their advice. Better people and higher quality products.
