Dad, who is 92, always said “If it raises my taxes, I vote no.”
He has always complained about
Taxes.
I’m 70 and as I went through life, came to the conclusion that I disagreed with most of his proclivities.
As a result, I can’t recall voting against a school, emergency, or any community levy.
I know that, like Dad, many people make a lot of noise about taxes and government.
But when I compare what I normally contribute to my charities of choice, and cash I give out randomly, with our tax rates it honestly just doesn’t seem exorbitant.
I consider that prices never go down, and EVERTHING will cost more later.
Bridges, roads, all infrastructure.
My calculations look like it will cost me about $25 a month. I realize that every person has different expenses and incomes so I wouldn’t be critical of those who are against this levy.
But after all considerations, it seems fairly insignificant to me.
I own a rental house in town and will not be raising their rent either. They are excellent tenants and I value that much more than a few extra bucks.
I’ll be voting yes, and recommend that each voter think hard and honestly about the advantage versus the real cost.
Best to our community.
