I have a solid gold initial ring that I received 60 years ago as a teenager. The initials have been worn off a couple of time and I was always able to have it redone when I lived in Texas. The store my parents bought it from had it redone at no cost. Now that i'm in Albany, I took it to a local jeweler who has been around for over 40 years in downtown. He said he would have to sent it to someone in California to get it redone and would cost about $750. He was going to verify and get back to me to confirm the price. I waited for about a week and went back in to see him. He said he forgot and i took the ring back. I found Gretz on the internet, called and drover over. They were amazing!!! I left my ring and picked it up 3 days later. It was brand new!!!! I couldn't believe it! Cost - $250, and the ladies i dealt with were totally awesome. I highly recommend Gretz. Oh, and they cleaned by wedding ring that I've worn for 18,699 days as of today, and it looks like it did 51 years ago!!! Terrific experience.

I have used a few different jewelers in the area for repairs. This shop is hands down the best one. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful and I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable price of the repair.

My fiancé and I had a bad experience at Jordan’s Jewelers with not only poor customer service but getting an antique ring resized down. It came back unpolished, rough, and damaged. From the moment we walked in to Richard Gretz we were greeted with smiles and enthusiasm for coming into the store. To our surprise, the lady who does all the appraisals happened to be in today. She examined my ring and gave us more information than was ever given at Jordan’s. She took the time to examine the ring closely and gave us the unfortunate news that it needs lots of repair and a diamond was even going to fall out (things that were not told previously). She saw the damages created by the resizing and both ladies walked us through the process step by step of what needed to be done to make the ring last for years and years.The amount of compassion, knowledge and understanding was far superior than most jewelry stores and we felt very taken care of. I don’t even mind that my ring will be off my hand for 2 weeks because I feel so confident it will be in much better shape than when we left.Due to this care, I will be getting a custom wedding band consultation with the hopes to build the wedding set of my dreams. Thank you!!

My experience with Richard Gretz Goldsmiths Custom Jewelry was a pleasure from the moment I walked in for an initial consultation to the moment I walked out with the finished product. After some disappointing experiences with having my mother’s diamond reset for my wedding ring, I went looking for a jeweler who could help me find just the right design to showcase this beautiful stone. Everyone was so helpful during the initial consultation, and Richard’s talent and experience made it abundantly clear that I had come to the right place. His custom design was the perfect fit for my diamond. Workmanship is top-notch, every person I dealt with was so nice and helpful, and I am just thrilled with my ring!

Ouch, not what we expected...took an older bracelet (17 stones) in for repair when one stone popped out. Repair made for $265...fair enough. One month later, another stone pops out. The manager examines the bracelet and says all of the stone settings are obviously compromised and it's not worth repairing(16 stones x $265) ... I appreciated her honesty but have to wonder why I wasn't told this BEFORE the first repair??? Just felt...you know!And a good jewelry glue cost $6 a bottle and a little bit of your time...just saying.

The ring looks so good!!! I came to Richard with a rather short timeline and vague specifications in mind and he and his team were such a pleasure to work with, along with crafting such a beautiful piece. Everything turned out genuinely so far beyond expectations, I was thrilled - and so was my fiancé! I would very highly recommend?

When you move to a new city, there are lots of things you don't know. Finding a great jewelry store is one. I was fortunate enough to have found Gretz to polish my rings and necklace and also tighten the setting on two of the diamonds. Such a relief to find professionals who know their craft and are genuinely nice. Highly recommend.

Gretz has been my go-to for decades, they are wonderful! This applies to the way they treat their customers but also to their technical skills. Richard created earrings for my daughter and myself as a memorial to my son at the request of my husband. They are very special !!! This time I took my wedding set in to be checked and repaired. I just picked it up and it looks brand new, the way it looked 46 years ago or maybe better! Thanks!
