I do NOT recommend this company
He had the best price in town, until I dropped off my truck. He claimed he didn't realize the price of parts had increased and said it would be almost double. I didn't have much time and he said he could get it done in the time frame I needed so I dealt with the price increase. Then the following day Tom called and told me he didn't have the money to buy the parts and needed me to drop off 1k. I chalked it up to a shop needing a deposit. But in hind sight, that should have been a clue... He DIDNT have money for parts.?.? What was I thinking?!
Less than a week later I get a call that my truck was ready for pickup, so I went and grabbed it and paid the bill. Tom at that time said he forgot the receipt and warranty and would mail it. A week went by. I called Tom, he said he mailed it but that he'd mail another copy. Waited another week. Then he said he must have the wrong address. A few days after that, my truck started popping and grinding. I took it back for warranty. He looked it over and said he couldn't find any leaks. I told him it wasn't leaking it was grinding! He said it just needed additive but he didn't have any and would go buy some. All this while I waited because he said prior that it'd only take a few mins and he had the additive... When he went to put the additive in he couldn't break the fill plug loose. I had to break it loose and it was tight! I'd bet over 75ftlbs. Pretty sure the spec is around 18ftlb. At this point I'm just hoping the job was done right, but I have strong doubts. Guess I'll find out eventually... Oh and when he finished putting in the fluid he said he forgot to bring my receipt and warranty AGAIN! And said he'd mail it that night. I waited ANOTHER week. I called and said I need it now so we arranged to meet in bend so I could pick it up a few days later. When I called to meet him he said he was in a meeting and couldn't meet plus his wife supposedly deleted all the info for the reciept and the warranty and he'd need another day to redo it all. We arranged for the next day and he actually showed up, but guess what! He only brought the receipt no warranty. He said he'd get it made up and drop it by my house the next day. He no showed, so I called him again and he said he forgot, but he'd bring it tomorrow for sure. I waited around till 1:18pm when Tom called and said he wasn't gunna be out my way, so I came unglued on him and he said "fine I'll head out there now, and hung up on me." So I waited till 6pm and gave up on him. He flat out LIED to me! THEN he randomly showed up at my house the next day with a warranty that looks like some grade schooler typed it up on Notepad. All in all, it took a little over a week to get the job done and another month in a half to two months of run around lies and wasted my time and fuel to get a receipt and warranty, 2 pieces of paper... Even if his work is the best ever and lasts longer than my truck, I would not recommend dealing with him. But I am fully expecting to have his work fail in the next couple months and for him to not stand behind his warranty. Why am I expecting this? Because of how unprofessionally I was dealt with. If he can't act like a professional how can I be sure he does professional work?!
I wish I would have read all the other reviews about this company, and especially Tom, before I took my truck there.

we had a Toyota RAV4 that needed a transmission. The Gear Works took our money (over $4000) to order a rebuild and install. Didn't get the car back for over 6months and was no longer in any kind of condition to drive. Transmission installed incorrectly and actually ruined it. Also did extra damage while doing the "service" Ended up junking the car. Got most of our money back thanks to Capitol One credit card. This place is a scam!

I contacted Tom at gearworks on a recommendation from a friend he quoted me a price about 4300 to rebuild my dodge NV5600 transmission and about 2 weeks turn around. I contacted my normal placei take transmission work to they were a month out and a bit more money. I decided to go with Tom, not because of cost, but on turn around time. ...big mistake. I got the transmission back in about 2.5 weeks, ok no problem. Put it in and it would not shift out of 1st gear. Took it back out after Tom said that was the only way and gave it back to him, he went through it again and had it another week and gave it back to me After saying he couldn't find anything wrong but said he realigned everything and I worked. So I put it back in and was able to drive it about 3 miles before it locked up and wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. Told him I wanted my money back and all he would give me is a bit less than half which was not quite all of the labor. Saying whoever I took it to could reuse the parts and that he would give me copies of the parts orders sp they would know what they were working with..... He never did, so they had to purchase their own parts. The place I took it to had a huge backlog and it took 2 months to get it back, but when they were finished. They said that the gear works left out the 1/2 cones... How do you miss that twice? Do not use this business if you want a quality product. Use the Original Bend Transmission Company, they do quality work

They built a Transmission for me that grenaded less than 2k miles. They took it back and reported it was not assembled correctly. Took 2 months for them to pick up, another 1.5 months for rebuild then Tom delivered an incomplete transmission and didn’t cover missing parts or gear oil. He consistently says one thing and does not deliver. Worst experience I’ve ever had with a shop. He’s cost me hundreds. Do not spend your money with this business, you will get burned.Service: Transmission

Tom has had a fast turnaround for his work. There was an accident and unfortunately my transfer case cracked very slightly. Tom has been a man of his word and is replacing it no questions asked. Very experienced with transmissions and transfer case’s from what I observed due the conversation we had. I think most these people leaving negative reviews don’t understand how complicated this work is.

Absolutely by far the worst operating business that I have ever dealt with. The owner Tom is extremely greedy! He promised us what needed to be done on our truck to be done in two weeks saying that even would leave him some time, then he took it upon himself to replace things on our truck without even asking or letting us know!!! We live in Sandy Oregon and we had to drive to Bend because he would not communicate with us we kept getting the runaround for two months!!! It took me calling other businesses that he used for our driveline and Lithia dodge in Bend for the boot that our truck needed. (No idea where he got or ordered the transfer case from) it was everything to get that out of him so then I’m left to call these businesses and tell them what’s going on with our truck and that we are dealing with Tom and it’s been a nightmare in one business had already heard that from another customer so that didn’t sit well with me that’s when we decided to drive over to Bend to even SEE if our truck was ready or where it was even where he said it was. Two days after because obviously we weren’t able to pick up our truck because it wouldn’t even move and he was extremely persistent and aggressive about us even taking it (we almost had it towed home) ITS ON ITS WAY TO ALBANY because tuner problems that once again TOM said “ I got it”. Then apparently he didn’t have it, we only found that out when we drove to bend! By the way he knew we were on our way with our infant and our 5 year old in a borrowed vehicle! So yet here I am two months into this still reaching out to another business which by the way he was amazing to get some type of communication about where the hell our truck is. We have a nice expensive truck that we have put a lot of money into and for somebody to not communicate with us let alone when we call he doesn’t even know our names is uneasy feeling! Finally our truck gets to us and now he’s telling us that the clutch plate is slipping but he still demanded the remaining balance of $3500. Absolutely no consideration to how he put us out for two months, he was extremely rude, he blamed our truck for everything & didn’t take any responsibility. He would not get out of my husband‘s way wouldn’t even let him test drive our truck and no discount at all. Extremely rude very unprofessional and my business attorney is definitely going to be contacting him. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau and leaving my reviews anywhere I can to help save anybody else from a nightmare like this! Being lied to and getting treated like this is absolutely unacceptable. I am a business owner myself and I have never ever treated a client this way and if there had ever been a problem I always made it right! He clearly didn’t get the memo on how to treat patient paying customers.

I am scheduled to have the differential on my caprice fixed here this week. I have read all the negative reviews so I will update my review after it's finished.
