Great staff. Super helpful and always polite. Checking dates for quality is annoying. Produce is iffy. Bathroom is always dirty. I recently took away a star because a few people in the deli are insufferable.

Not always so friendly there, maybe because they're often short staffed and under sticked. They have gas and my favorite yogurt (sometimes).

I just returned from shopping. I had a big cart full of groceries. The only checkout was was the limited items one, and the line was long. So, not great for a disabled person in chronic pain. Then I had 7 items that needed authorization, so it took forever. After I had everything back in my cart, I headed to the door where another employee was doing circles in the motorized cart while 3 other employees blocking the door were laughed at him.
Seriously? I am so done.

I asked Patricia for mozzarella on my sandwich and there was only a little bit left, but instead of going to go get more mozzarella, she just gave me the three pieces and said you’re just gonna get a little taste of it. And I also think you need someone working that could actually hear what people are saying when they make orders for sandwiches or food in general

Can someone determine if like, an electric current is being generated with the shopping carts here at this location? You seem to notice getting shocked when you're pushing the carts. I'm not complaining, just want to understand the science behind it. First would be to see if anyone else has experienced it.
Thanks.

**UPDATE!**
Thank you Safeway for taking the time to read and consider my review of your Astoria location. Receiving direct feedback does give me a sense of connection and feeling that my singular voice has been recognized. Upon reading the news of many Kroger stores due to close soon including this Astoria Safeway location, I take no small amount of pride in being solely able to convince the cooperate board in their decision to cease operations. Thank you Safeway for recognizing your many flaws as a business and bowing out gracefully. Thank you everyone who may choose to continue to visit and loot this store until closing. And lastly goodbye to a blight of a business in many northwest communities, will not be missed.
A visit to this Safeway is a guaranteed disappointment. There is nothing good about this store. Even the staff have told me they can’t afford to shop here and they shop elsewhere. Avoid this Safeway and save time, money, and be happier.
Every single time I visit here, I’m forced to use the self check out due to staffing shortages. If busy these lines suck and can wind down multiple isles with people aggressively cutting or feigning knowledge of how a line simply works. Without fail, some price will ring up incorrectly and I have to ask for a price adjustment which is corrected without question or verification - I guess we can all feel free to test this and verbally make up prices to be corrected by the staff?
The price tags are only and always misleading or wrong. Want a bag of chips? At a given price? You’ll have to buy four or five bags to get that price. Or you’ll have to buy four or five bags AND use your phone with a digital coupon. Or you'll have to come on a different day - I’ve seen a price on something that was not valid when I was standing in front of it, but for later on in the week. Oh sweet, I didn’t come here to buy sour cream today, just to check how much it will cost in three days.
The layout of this, and all Safeways, is intended to keep you INSIDE the store by hiding stuff and creating a maze that forces you to spend more time in and buy more impulsive type items because you are TRYING to get what you came for. The best part of this is that it works and shoppers are generally and understandably more confused when wandering around TRYING to locate what used to be where it was last time, or where it should be.
Remember that young lady that was assaulted by those winners from Long Beach? Here. I’ve seen fights in the parking lot, I've seen daytime public defecation and urination in the parking lot, I've seen drones hovering over the parking lot for whatever weird reason, I've seen homeless parties inside and outside of the doors and in the parking lot.
I understand that prices in this county are higher than in the city, but this place is outrageous. Astoria Safeway advertises items as on sale, with the sale price being four times higher than the next Safeway to the east, and even that Safeway is pricier than all other grocers.
I also understand staffing is a challenge, I’m not even going to specify why this Safeway staff is so bad, just come here and see for yourself. The only reason people come here is because they can’t or don’t want to go elsewhere, meaning across the bridge or to the next town.
This Safeway has been this bad for at least a decade and I truly hope it closes, so avoid it. Or if you’re reckless, come here and just loot the hell out of it lol.

Not happy the clerk at self checkout came over to check my items for a purchase and then filled out the customer service survey on the keypad with how much I enjoyed my trip when I in fact did not find the items I was looking for and did not ask if they could pretend to be me (a customer) for the survey

Good gas prices especially with the safeway discount. This store is always a last stop on our way camping and usually.on the way home too the only bad experience was with a worker in the deli.meet deparent and im going to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was having a bad day. Still like this store buy the meat counter employees are a bit rude and lazy. Couldn't get any sliced meat at 7:45 claiming all slicers were down when in all honesty they just didn't want to clean the slicer again. If they close at 8 they should help customers until 8 not try and talk them into something different than what they asked for. Safeway you should get new employees for the deli or re train your current ones.
