Custard King
1597 Commercial St, AstoriaThe employee who served us was very friendly and quick. The frozen custard we got was delicious and a good amount for the price. The hot food was mid grade, it wasn't anything amazing but if my kids are hungry for a quick bite while we are in Astoria we will eat here again. I'd give the frozen treats 5/5 and the food a 3.5/5. The location is a fun little outdoor stop when it's not pouring rain ☔?Parking: They have a free one way parking lot that can be hard to get in and out of but there is also plenty of street parking around the corner on busy days.Kid-friendliness: Lots of kid friendly options!

Buoy Beer Company
1152 Marine Dr, AstoriaDecent place, we had lunch here while visiting Astoria and checking out the Goonies Jail and house. Our twin 8 year old boys had the hamburger and PB&J which both come with chips, my wife had the Fish-Wich and I had the Salmon BLT with the Bouy IPA ( which was pretty good), we had curly fries with our sandwiches which was an extra $2 per order, it's not typical restaurant, you go to the counter to order and then a server/expediter brings out your food, refills you have to go up to the counter and they do not have fountain soft drinks it's all in cans or bottles except the iced tea. They have lots of menu options and clean bathrooms, service was good.

Busu Astoria
275 11th St, AstoriaThis spot is pure quality served fresh out of a tiny to-go window. Busu is a one-man show; it opens when the chef is ready to roll (and not before), which for us was a little past 6pm. Get there early because the line gets long fast.He told us it was his first time cooking the menu (handwritten on a whiteboard, of course) headed up by a whole quail "oyakodon tribute" and including a forager's miso, kimchi congee, and kara-age morel mushrooms. It was the best meal someone has cooked me in years. No exaggeration, I tore that quail apart with my hands on a picnic bench in 5 minutes flat and nothing but bones remained. My one regret is that I didn't even bother taking pictures because I couldn't wait to eat, and the quail was legitimately a thing of beauty.Places like Busu are getting harder to find. This isn't the place to go if you're expecting to be coddled and catered to, although the service is genuinely good and the chef is a delight to interact with. This is cuisine without white tablecloths, triple-digit price tags, or pretense. It's good, genuinely good, so good that the food stands entirely on its own merit. I will definitely be back, and I'll stand outside that little window as long as I need to for another helping.Vegetarian options: Vegetarian/vegan items were clearly labeled, and more than half the menu was vegan. They even had gluten-free options!

Portway Tavern
422 W Marine Dr, AstoriaUpdated to add that the owner really went out of her way to make it right. We will give it another try next time we're in town.I'll start by saying that our food was mostly decent save for the burger which was extremely overdone. I don't normally get overly concerned with service but there were a few things that really irked me.First I was sent with my ($85) pickup order with no cutlery. I went back in to ask for it and was handed two forks, one of which the packaging had already been opened and was told that's all they had. Which is unfortunate because 3 of us ordered soup.I also noticed after leaving that I was charged $0.75 for dressing for my salad. I can understand a charge for extra dressing, but I did not ask for extra anything. I was also charged for sauce for chicken strips. I was asked what kind of sauce I wanted for the chicken - no mention of an extra charge. Finally I was charged $3.00 for ordering takeout. Again this wouldn't really be as big of a deal if it was disclosed prior to me arriving to pick up my order.Would not eat here again and would not recommend. Just not worth the price and the hassle.
