Great local resource. Only place around for fixing instruments, and a great selection of musical instruments and parts. In addition to the vast collections of vinyl and CDs.

i've lived up here in astoria now for 2 years... i've mostly enjoyed my visits to bach-n-rock. i've attempted to steer business tim's way and have always had a pleasant banter during my visits. tim repaired a trombone for me - did an AWESOME job! he's really knowledgeable about music in general and good at instrument repair... i do, however, fully agree w the other reviewers about tim's lack of people-skills, hospitality & weird covid-mask-paranoia. nonetheless! ... b-n-r is like a time-capsule and a wonderful musical gem. i appreciate tim's business and will always come back! :)

Records are good quality, but the owner(?) Was rude, seemed like he didn't want me to be there, and was crazy about covid. also was $35 dollars for one vinyl record.

When i first walked into the store there were covid protocols in place which are understandable regarding why everything was locked up. There are even signs saying to just ask and the store manager was helpful when i did ask!! Sometimes it’s nice to not be bombarded when you’re just trying to look around and find your own music :) All of the plants and animals are so cute and i got some good finds, definitely a store with some older music! I would definitely love to go back ?

This place is unique and rather cool. It sells used DVD, CD's, tapes and lots of vinyl records. There's also used musical instruments for sale. The best part of shopping here is knowing that your money is going to a cat rescue that takes in hard to adopt cats like blind ones, elderly, and cats that have medical issues that nobody else wants, etc. I feel good spending money here knowing it's going to help felines in need on the North Coast. Highly recommend buying here.

This store is beautiful and it has an impressive collection of musical instruments, records and tapes. I love its quirkiness and I also noticed the owner seems to be an animal lover. I really have no complaints about this hidden gem except for the fact that the man who works in the store is very off putting. I’m not sure if he is the owner or not. Throughout the entire time I was in there he completely ignored me. He didn’t say one word to me not even as I said goodbye and thank you on my way out. I felt very unwelcome in his presence. Almost like he was annoyed I was even in the store! It’s unfortunate because I really enjoyed the store itself.

This has an amazing potential to be a good store but it's really far from that. The CD selection is amazing however everything is $15-30 and locked behind a glass case. -You can't pull them off the shelves to assess the quality or version and it feels annoying to have to ask every time. You have better luck finding the album you want on Discogs for a fraction of the price. It overall feels a little unwelcoming being there

I went there specifically to browse the CD cases. Was too frustrating; everything is locked up. Owner or operator was there working on something and it felt uninviting and too much to ask to unlock case after case after case after case. Selection looks good and I wanted too buy. I wanted to be able pull items out and look at them at random. Very disappointed. Left without buying.

This Shop is magnificent. With its unique energy & atmosphere, extensive catalog of all things music, and passionate knowledgeable ownership it’s become a real treasure trove in a world that insists on trading in art for convenience. If you seek physical Art ( vinyl, tapes, cd’s, musical instruments, incense etc etc etc ) than I’d encourage you to make a visit and spend your money here in a place that matters.Respectfully ~ Seann

The place was very cool for a trumpeter like me. When I walked in the door, all I could smell was the smell of old brass instruments. He has one of the biggest collection of trumpets that I have seen in a store in Washington in a small town. It was very cool.

Guy was incredibly rude and was super sketchy. He was “Covid crazy” and seemed like he didnt really want my business. Don’t bother going to this shop. How this shop stays in business is a mystery.

To preface this I will say I came in looking for media, not instruments or instrument repair, so this could be a stellar place if that's what you're looking for. However my experience was not great. The owner seemed annoyed by our presence (which I usually don't really care about, I've worked plenty of customer service jobs and everyone has their days) but everything was bafflingly expensive while nothing about the selection was cool or unique, all stuff you would find at a Goodwill, and on top of that it was all locked up (I live in Portland and they don't even do that with the rare stuff at record stores. I promise you no one in Astoria is trying to steal a used copy of Family Guy Season 5 on DVD...)The place felt creepy and dismal and smelled like a decrepit, mildewy pet store. I didn't even notice there was a live bird in there until my girlfriend pointed it out, and I felt uneasy and gross after leaving and looking at all the reviews mentioning the sad caged cat (which I didn't see).We bought two jazz cassette tapes (they have an extensive collection, which initially was exciting because we love cassettes, but the pickings were slim) which were unpriced and we thought "Hey, they can't be that expensive, right? They're cassettes!". Well, they ended up being upwards of 20 bucks. And the first one broke immediately when we played it.I'd say this place is a hard pass if you're coming through Astoria.

My teens are collecting 80's rock band vinyls so while in town we decided to stop in to see what we could find for them. The sign on the door read "masks highly encouraged." However, to get to a "special" area where the vinyls we were looking for required a mask and only one person was allowed at a time. It was absolutely ridiculous that I could not join my husband in that particular area. He asked the odd man behind the counter if he could take pics to send to the boys to see if it was what they were looking for and he apparently doesn't allow pics. (We don't understand why this is the case.) The store was set up very odd. While large, there were areas that were roped off but could be accessed from another way. My husband did find one album he would have liked but decided to not give Mr. Grumpypants our business. The door says the proceeds benefit an animal rescue but having that guy running the busines isn't going to make them much. On a side note, I found the vinyl on ebay for cheaper even with paying for shipping.

Serious music as the store front says couldn't be more true. The knowledgable owner is available for questions and his stock is well organized and the store, tidy. Prices are commensurate with quality. This is a hidden gem and worthy of a budding Astoria.
