The older lady who runs the self check out is the worst person I’ve met in all of Ashland, her energy is worse than the homeless folks screaming at nothing in the plaza.Over and over she has the worst attitude and energy. She never looks like she’s even suppose to be there , super unprofessional, over all I avoid her if I go to shopping cart because she makes me feel like “why did this place hire her?.. ew”

This place has consistently low prices and mostly good service. They carry a lot of the brands favored by the more expensive co-op (which I love, btw) for a lower price. The vast majority of the checkers are friendly and helpful, except for one long timer that just checked me out who seemed to have the personality of a stone. Didn’t say hello. Didn’t ask if I found anything. Stared off into space mostly, earbud attached. No thank you. No goodbye. But as I said, that’s one checker alone and I’m not naming names. I think they could probably guess. Anyway, it’s not going to ruin my night. I’m moving on with my day. The only reason for this review is because Google asked (knowing I’d just been there) and I review often. I answered. I would recommend Shop’n Kart to anyone needing groceries in Ashland. It’s a great place, one disinterested checker notwithstanding.

Shop'n Kart is an old fashioned grocery store that has gone out of its way to supply Ashlanders with great alternatives to popular brand name foods for decades. Their Health and Beauty Department carries all sorts of unconventional medicines ranging from extracts and tinctures of supplemental mushrooms and other folk medicine plants to stuff you can get anywhere else. Even though I'm not into it, it's fun just perusing the wide selection.Their Bulk Department is quite a bit more robust than other stores as well. Like most of the rest of the store, it focuses on organic foods that are usually either locally sourced or ethically traded from abroad. Their Produce Department is the same way. Shop'n Kart has always been where you can find rare items.Almost all of the employees enjoy working there and some even love their job. Shop'n Kart is even a non-corporate, locally owned grocery store and has always been that way. It's my favorite store here in town.

I shop here regularly and have literally spent thousands and thousands of dollars at this store.I feed my pets raw food that I usually buy at the pet store. I was out of pet food and the pet store was closed, so I drove over to Shop N Kart to get some as I had noticed they carried it also.Upon getting home from the store I opened up the bag and was hit with a horrific smell. The raw food was totally rancid and unusable. Normally if I have an issue with a grocery product I just let it pass bc it's not worth the hassle of driving back to the store. However this item was $30, so I figured it was worth returning.I took it back and was met with a worker who had terrible customer service skills and informed me because I didn't have a receipt there was nothing he could do. The item literally has a sticker smack on the front of it that says Shop N Kart and has a barcode. I walked right in with it and directly to the cash register.I had no idea a receipt was needed, I figured with the shop n kart sticker right on it, the fact that I am a regular shopper and had just recently purchased it, and had the credit card I'd used to purchase it, they would be able to do something (would have been fine with a replacement vs refund), or at the very least apologize. At the end of each transaction they ask you whether or not you'd like your receipt. I typically decline because I've never needed to return anything and always figured it wouldn't be an issue to bring something back if I did.I wish someone had clearly stated when offering the receipt that it should be taken and kept in case anything needed to be returned. At the very least, customer service could be improved. Apologize that the item is rancid and say you wish you could help but it's policy and you're sorry about the inconvenience. The way stores handle things like this is really really important. It was such an unpleasant experience that I won't be returning there and will just stick with the Coop and Market of Choice. I don't want to continue giving money to a store that treats a regular customer and a serious quality control issue with such disregard.

HORRIBLE costumer service. An item we purchased didn’t make it into the bag when we left and was left behind on the counter and we came back to get our money back or another one and they wouldn’t help us at all because we bagged our own groceries. Total bulls hit we live far and traveled to come get the item. Super ridiculous would not shop here if you want real support from the store employees.

This store carries a disturbing amount of old, expired food. Don’t the employees ever check best by dates here? I just got a can of beans that expired in 2018! Along with two packages of dry beans that expired in 2022. Last time the jerky was expired and the peas were wrinkly and frozen solid. The time before that, the bulk beans were so old that they never got soft during cooking. It’s sad that they don’t take food safety seriously here. Most stores have a few outdated items on the shelf but I’ve never seen such as excessive amount as this place. I don’t trust it and I won’t be returning. I let a manager know and she was dismissive and didn’t even apologize. Yeah, goodbye.

Melissa or Marissa. The "Floor Manager" really needs to understand the term "customer service" she scoffed because I went through her line. Even though she was there to help the other clerk. Forgot to ring on two of my item that were on the belt and I asked if she got these two other items, she scoffed again and rolled her eyes and cancelled the first transaction to make a new one. Proceeded to say; after I asked her how the day was, "oh I'm still here working." And then sat down in front of the door while the other clerk was probably about 8 or 9 customers deep in line.

Local legend grocery store. I mean, you can get organic steak (on sale), bulk foods, crystals and throw cushions all in the same stop! What's not to love?

I have no idea why they were so rude and impatient, talked me in a super condescending way, I couldn't get my card working and they rushed me until I just paid cash. When I wanted to talk to a manger she hung up on me.

I can get most of what I need supplement wise there. They have some good looking cotton dresses there with some wild prints.
