Tiny gallery that doesn't worth a trip

very cute, tiny museum. but, they have washrooms that say women “self-identified” and men “self-identified”. erasing biological truths is not good. museums are places frequented by young children—this is dangerous and unnecessary signage. there’s also a gender neutral washroom which makes no sense because that doesn’t exist. why do museums have to cater to 1% of the population and erase women who are already marginalized? sad.

Small gallery but I’m grateful that there actually is a decent gallery in Unionville.
They have exhibits that change and 3 sections inside that can cater to various interests.
Until May 5th, they have a few pieces of original artworks by famous Canadian artists at the entrance, including FH Varley, AJ Casson, Lemieux, David Milne. For a small gallery like this, not bad at all.
In the other section they have artworks created by First Nations women including Pitseolak Ashoona. I enjoyed this section the most. There were a few contemporary artworks by women artists included with commentary explaining the reason for including it in this section.
Worth checking out, even if you only have 20 minutes, to see something beautiful, interesting and different at Unionville.

The Varley Art Gallery of Markham, nestled in the heart of Ontario, is a true hidden gem for art enthusiasts. From the moment you step through its doors, you are greeted with a captivating blend of contemporary and traditional art that immerses you in a world of creativity. The first thing that strikes you is the architectural beauty of the gallery itself; the modern design seamlessly complements the artworks within. The layout is spacious and well-organized, allowing visitors to explore the diverse collection with ease. One of the highlights of my visit was Varley's commitment to engaging visitors. They offer various educational programs and workshops, making art accessible to all ages. The staff's knowledge and passion for the art world are truly commendable; they're always ready to answer questions and share insights. My last visit was free of charge - well, what else to ask for. It's not easy to find parking on the weekends.

Beautiful gallery located in the heart of Unionville. The gallery isn’t very large but they have interesting exhibitions. The current one is about the stories of Chinese immigrants in the past 100 years. Given the large Chinese population in Markham, I think many can relate to these stories. And it’s also a good educational resource for the next generation Chinese + non-Chinese alike. There is also another exhibition with really really amazing flower-art.Definitely worth a visit especially if you are taking a stroll down Main Street Unionville enjoying some leisure time.
