Of course I'm biased - I'm in the current group show!Seriously though, I would have rated the Plumb this highly before I had an inkling I'd ever show there. It's an artist collective in a modest space that seems interested in group shows that are diverse & intergenerational - mixing emerging & established artists. They've adapted a basement space well and work is shown to full advantage. It's great to see that in spite of Toronto's high rents, galleries like the Plumb, Pumice Raft, Towards, & Franz Kaka are finding ways to bring new artists to the fore.

With a great location and low-key back alley entrance the plumb gallery is another in a wide and varied force of art taking over Toronto's commercial property like some kind of creeping vine crawling over the rubble of long lost ancient civilization left vacant by a disaster from an historical astrological event. In reality it's a basement space with a couple smaller rooms, as well as a larger one that could fit a larger, more crowed event when SRO is allowed again. There is one bathroom centrally located on the floor. There are stairs as soon as you enter the space, that lead you down to a reception desk, which was tastefully decorated in some neat glow-in-the-dark artwork tipping you off that this event was about colour and light and not another typical boring corporate party your work makes you attend. Steamwhistle Brewing was one of the sponsors, and they had a couple drinks available, encouraging attendees to relax, sit on the blow-up vinyl couches and take in the mixed media, audio and video productions from the artists. There were no live performances unfortunately yet, but when that happens this space will become electrified on another level. Recommended to add to your notification list of west end art galleries!
