The Hazeldean location is one of the food basics that is reliably cleaner and has better customer service than others I've been to in Ottawa. I also find that they are likely to have more sale items in stock than some other locations.

The Food Basics on Hazeldean offers great prices on fruits and vegetables, especially when on sale. They make an effort to prevent food waste by marking down blemished produce. The international aisle is impressive, with a wide variety of products from around the world, making it easy to find ingredients for diverse cuisines.

Sabrina was very kind and generous to us. The customer service given by Sabrina was EXCEPTIONAL…I would say exceptional is an UNDERSTATEMENT of what was transferred.. Sabrina ensured that the customers was well taken care of instead of attending to her needs. When Sabrina had to go on her break, there was not enough staff on the front line. Sabrina took it upon herself to sacrifice her lunch break for the sake of the customers. Sabrina’s kind gesture made light in a dark and gloomy day of mine. Thank you so much Sabrina. Keep up the magnificent work!! God bless you!

This location never has enough lanes open. So much money going through the store yet they aren't employing the amount of people they should be.
Only realized that's what I was truly upset about when I was prickly with a staff member today who didn't deserve it. The only thing saving this place from one star is the staff, who are always kind and courteous. Hire more great staff please!

Do not buy meat from this store. I have bought ribs and roast in last month and both bad when I opened. I was once shopping at this store saw a palette of chicken sitting out of cooler, told. Staff member she walked over and then walked away and left it out. Beware

I went in. Didn't find much of what I normally buy and left. I never purchased from Food Basics in my old neighborhood, Barrhaven, Strandherd Dr, because the place was not kept clean.
