I happily support local and am an advocate for keeping our small towns thriving but it is hard to do when faced with blatant rudeness and hostility. I recently shopped at my local dollar haven and put my basket filled with several items on the counter. Before I could empty it the clerk with no greetings or smile angrily, and with a deep sigh dumped my items and proceeded to grumpily scan my items. She gave me a total and put my receipt in my bag, to give me notice the transaction had completed. Now I know it is not mandatory to say hello, good afternoon or give other common pleasantry's but it does go a long way to having a customer WANT to return. An employee is a representative of the business they are employed at and as such, promotes or dissuades people from repeat commerce. This encounter was very rude and hostile and as a local I feel sad that I will be following others as they choose to drive further to get the customer service they expect and deserve.
