“I recently moved permanently to Canada as a PR around September 2020 and though I did a soft landing in Jan 2020 for only 2 weeks - this wouldn't be taken into account from a tax perspective... However, initially I reached out to TurboTax and one of their tax consultants gave me a heart attack when they said that I would own CRA a lot of money since I would be needed to pay taxes even on my global income from Jan-Sept 2020 which totally seemed absurd to me. I left their services and found Amin at MAC-PRO CPA. He handled the whole thing very well and with his amazing understanding of how the tax laws work here in Canada, he filed our taxes within a couple of days and we in fact got back some refunds from CRA that exactly matched with what Amin had filed for.
