This review is not of the wine store itself (over-priced wines and as an experienced sommolier, I would know) but of the newly opened dine-in bistro experience now in conjunction with the wine store.
At first glance, a limited but tasty sounding menu. Quaint bistro but definitely a WIP. We see charcuterie, WE’RE ON IT!
Unfortunately, our visit was anything but satisfying. Note: we were the only patrons there.
We ordered a small charcuterie (not on the menu…choices are for two or four) with the special of two 5 oz. glasses of wine (reasonably priced).
Went with the suggested wine pairing…was not pleasant. Had that tart, vinegary after taste neither of us is fond of.
Waited and waited and…waited and…waited and…asked my spouse to time how long it will be until the charcuterie (half size of the one for 2 people) takes until it lands on our table.
While waiting, we noticed that the floor was very unclean and our table had areas of previous meals still on it.
The server/owner(?) did keep checking on us but we felt uncomfortable with the subject of his conversation with us for several minutes. That’s all I’m saying on that as the subject matter isn’t the main issue but patrons like to have fun conversations. We get enough depressive world reality watching the news.
Finally, the ‘chef’ brought out the charcuterie…40 minutes later. Can’t help but wonder what, now seeing the food items on the board, could possibly have taken 40 minutes?!? There was a few slices of cheese, small bunch grapes, small sweet potato(?) chips and beet chips - fairly certain not made in house and if so, not during our wait time. There were 4 slices of Italian-style deli meat (from a package) 4 pieces of prosciutto (from a package but very off colour), some olives, 6 crostinis, couple of red pepper slices, guacamole, grain mustard (not sure what that was for?), salsa made from grape tomatoes (tasty), and a side of strawberry cream cheese.
We managed through it and just wanted to pay and leave even though I had my eye on the Affogato.
Went to pay our bill but couldn’t pay by credit or debit because the owner took off with the device that was needed to power up the debit machine so had to walk down to the closest bank to withdraw cash. Not cool.
When I returned, my spouse mentioned how the ‘chef’ really boasted herself on her skills, laddee-daddee-da and so on. Considering the length of time it took and the quality of the food is nothing to boast about. Sad.
