Wonderful place to go to they have done amazing job with my dog Shaq. The wonderful lady at the desk is amazing. She has been wonderful to help me out when I have asked many questions. And got me in appointment fast. Thank you for being so supportive with Shaq.

Absolutely amazing facility. The staff are extremely helpful. Katie (dog) was adopted before they moved to the new facility. She is very excited to welcome her new kitten brother.

Good service even though it's a long way for us to go. Had our kitten serviced very reasonable and convenient. Less than 1/2 the price of all the local vets.

My visit to this establishment was disappointing due to the lack of responsiveness via phone and email. Conversely, upon arrival, all staff members were present at their workstations. It would be beneficial to allocate specific staff for handling communications. I observed an employee eating at their desk, who then hastily concluded our interaction regarding post-operative pet care inquiries. When seeking updates, I was advised to return later. Furthermore, I witnessed a disturbing incident where two women sought urgent assistance for a non-responsive dog, offering to surrender due to financial constraints. Regrettably, the staff's inaction led to the dog's demise, leaving me deeply troubled.

The staff at Peterborough Humane Society are amazing! You can tell that they truly care about animals. They took excellent care of our kitty who was recently neutered & microchipped at their facility. They are highly organized, professional and very friendly to deal with. The entire process from getting an appointment to the day of surgery drop off and pick up was very , easy, organized and seamless. The services are way cheaper than any Vet clinic. I would highly recommend their spay / neuter clinic to anyone in need of this service for their cat or dog and I would not hesitate to support them in the future. Thanks so much for all that you do!

We recently visited with our Peterborough 4H Cloverbuds. We had a tour of the new facility. Met some adorable black kittens and did some crafts.
The volunteers were super friendly and knowledgeable and fantastic with our group of 7 kids!

TL;DR: amazing staff and place
Longer version:
We were looking to adopt a dog and we came in and there was a lady that helped us navigate the building and get a form to apply. We then went a second time to meet one of the dogs. Along side us was our dog we already hands. Rachel immediately greeted our dog and it just kinda stuck with me how friendly she was to him. Rachel was the one we talked to the most and she is so amazing and knows her stuff. The third time we went, we adopted the dog. While sitting there, another dog was walking with someone else and jumped to say hi to Rachel and another staff member. They were so loving towards that dog. They were even calling themselves the aunt to that dog! As someone who grew up with lots of “aunties” and “uncles”, that’s when I realised the true love the staff member have for the pets here. They are not just animals to be adopted but family. Some of the staff even walked out with us to say bye to the doggy, too!
Unfortunately we did have to send back the dog we adopted. I was terrified to come back. But Rachel, once again, was so kind and understanding. And not in just a polite way, it really felt like she was understanding. Our dog greeted Rachel with such excitement and love, I knew that even though it was a crappy situation, this dog would still be cared for. That dog would still be loved.
You can tell they care about their animals and that the animals are loved. I was so blown away that they had a behaviourist! And we could ask them any questions we had! This shelter works so hard for the dogs. The adoption suites are also really nice. Out of the many shelters I have seen in my lifetime, this one impressed me the most. Each dog has their sort of mini room. The building was also beautiful but that’s beside the point. I honestly think every shelter should be like this one with how much care is put into its staff and the comfort of the animals. Shelters should have more funding going towards them but that’s a whole different topic.
Rachel was so informative and ready to give us resources for whatever we needed for our dog, too. As I mentioned earlier, she reminded us we could email the behaviourist at any time for help with our dog. She gave us a sheet on the best way to introduce our new dog to the one we already had at home. She also gave us an email so if we needed anything else, they could help us. This place cares about its animals not just when they are physically present in the shelter but outside too. I am just consistently impressed by how the shelter goes above and beyond expectations. They are so freaking amazing.
I have seen reviews about how they don’t get back to your calls immediately. This is true but you have to understand how busy they are. They are doing SO MUCH on top of answering calls! I was always able to leave a message and they ALWAYS called me back. You just have to be a little patient!
All in all, I am so impressed with this place and it’s mostly because of the staff. They make the environment so warm and welcoming to humans and animals alike. The animals are loved and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. I have nothing but praise for this place and could ramble for hours but I think this review is long enough. But ignore those negative reviews! They’re just being pouty! This shelter is the best.

Many thanks to Jess and the volunteers for matching me to my new kitten. Six days ago, I picked up a timid 3.5 month-old tabby. She hid for a couple days in safe places setup for that purpose. Now, as seen in the photo, she's giving her human orders for the day. Please, if you're going to adopt an animal, go the the Peterborough Humane Society. There are so many furry beings there that need a home. The adoption fee is minimal compared to what you save in spaying/neutering, rabies shots, etc.

Spay and Neuter Clinic is wonderful. Not only is it half the price of a veterinarian office visit but the staff here really cares about an animals well-being.

Staff and volunteers are so caring, passionate and helpful in finding the perfect human for their animals. We went in to visit the cats for kitten adoption day and we’re so impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and areas provided for the animals. We will definitely be back when we’re next ready to adopt ?
