“I have never had to much pride to ask for help when my kids needed things. I’ve gone without dinner more than once so they get their tummies full.
When I needed help they were there no questions asked no judgments
We were treated with such consideration and support it was truly amazing
When I’m doing ok I make sure to give back to this resource so other families can get the help they need”
“Imagine a Friday like this! When your community becomes a family! When inclusivity and togetherness are not just words. When no one is judging you. When everyone wants you to become the best of you! A BIG shout out to the New Canadians Centre for being there always for making things a bit easier for the newcomers while they acclimatize and embrace the newness of lives. My wife introduced me to NCC in 2022 that is when we landed in canada and it gives me great pleasure to say that we got attached to it through her. They allow and encourage new comers through their various programs and special courses at no cost to hone their skills. My wife learned home maintenance & management, took sewing classes, professional food handling certification, supporting and promoting new and local businesses and the list goes on. The free of charge trips for newcomer families that they organise time to time help them connect with each other and embrace the new country. She became a regular active volunteer there and whenever we do anything in our capacity with NCC it gives us a sense of supporting the community in any way possible.”
“I bought a beautiful dresser that had recently been donated from an estate. I love it. The staff were very nice and helped me measure my car and the dresser to let me know I couldn't fit it in the car.”
“Evryone that works there is extremely passionate about and committed to providing clients with advocacy and any assistance they can offer with programs and services that really make a difference in peoples lives. The support and kindness I’ve personally received has been instrumental in my journey to a better life. All of the services I utilized and took advantage of directly contributed to improving and solving the problem areas of my life that I was really struggling with and alleviated immense amounts of stress of my shoulders. I am eternally grateful for the staff and programs at Elizabeth Fry Society of Peterborough!”
“Value Village has been my go-to thrift store for years, and it never disappoints. I love the variety and range of items they offer—everything from clothes and accessories to household goods, books, and even collectibles. Part of the fun of shopping here is never knowing what you'll find; I've discovered unique vintage pieces, designer brands, and quirky decor items that add so much character to my home. The prices are usually affordable, and it’s rewarding to know that my purchases support a more sustainable, eco-friendly way of shopping by reusing and recycling items.
One of the things I appreciate about Value Village is how well they organize their stores. It makes it easier to browse, and the staff is generally friendly and willing to help when needed. I do find that prices on certain items, especially name-brand clothing, can be on the higher side compared to other thrift stores, but the quality is often good, so it’s usually worth it.
Overall, I highly recommend Value Village for anyone looking to add unique finds to their wardrobe or home. Whether you’re a seasoned thrifter or new to second-hand shopping, it’s a great place to explore, save money, and make more sustainable shopping choices. Plus, the thrill of finding that hidden gem keeps me coming back.”
“The absolute best staff ever! I cannot say enough about how wonderful they all are. My Jen has been going for years and she just loves it. She gets so excited!! When I am asking her to get ready because we are going to "brain injury"! She jumps up all excited! She always goes in smiling and is always coming out beaming, telling me she had the BEST time!Thank you for all you do to make a difference in her life!”
