Like most other people here, I was told when I arrived that they would not be able to rent me a car because my license is out of province and I didn't have a booked plane ticket back to my home province. He said this should've been in the confirmation email that was sent to me- at the very bottom of one email I received it said "if you have an out of province license we MAY ASK you come in with proof of departure". I was not asked to come in with proof of departure (and called over the phone to confirm and change some details) so obviously I didn't think this applied to me.
I've lived in Ottawa for 4 years, I go to school here so obviously I'd be coming back and even after I said I'd book a plane ticket right there (I was always planning on going back for the holidays anyways) so I'd be able to get the car, he told me he couldn't rent it to me now because "I was just buying the plane ticket to rent the car" and I guess then steal it?? And what return the plane ticket? Sorry that makes no sense. All other rental places I called had no problem with my out of province license but nowhere else had same day availability. This completely ruined my travel plans! Do not use them :)

Perhaps mentioning that some driving licenses are not accepted and that it isn't said nowhere at any point in the reservation process. Would avoid 30 minutes to go there, 30 minutes of waiting, 30 to go back and professional meetings missed. Good idea, don't you think?

I am ONLY leaving 5 stars because of Vicky (I think that’s her name). Give that girl a raise. Everyone else gets a zero.
After reading these reviews about the manager - I am in complete agreement. He is rude and not helpful in the slightest. Zero customer service skills. How he was hired as the manager is beyond me.

LOL. Go book somewhere else please. Asides being the only rental in my years of renting requiring 2 PHOTO IDs (CC aside) for whatever weird reason, they are clearly penny pinchers.
This my first ever review on Google so a lot doesn’t annoy me like this but making me have to go top up gas in a car by $2 dollars because it wasn’t full enough is clear signals of a failing branch. There’s a weird air there. Please leave this rubbish branch and go book at the airport 🙏🏾🤝

Was just about to attach the photos and got annoyed all over again. I understand the economy is tough but ??? Just send all the employees to the airport branch to learn better customer service

This is is worst and most unprofessional car rental experience I have had.
In a similar experience to my fellow Canadian from Nunavut, I was refused a car rental that I had booked well in advance because of my Quebec drivers license by the branch manager. He claimed they required a return flight or train ticket to rent me the car (I am renting a car for the week in Ontario and getting a lift back to Quebec). He then told me not to waste my money buying a ticket now because he knew I would not use it and suggested I would steal the rental car. Absolutely beyond belief.

There's something seriously wrong with this rental. I had to cancel my reservation at Hertz because of strange, strict requirements made at this particular renter.
Switched to competition and rented without any problems - for the same period, with the same documents available, the same type of car.
I am sorry because I had good experiences with Hertz before but unfortunately after the incident at this particular agency I will have to switch to competition. Definitely Hertz as a large company should intervene, as this particular renter in my opinion damages the reputation of Hertz in general.
My recommendation: If you want to avoid completely unnecessary nuisance rent somewhere else.

I had a very unprofessional interaction. I booked a car for one day only. Nowhere was it mentioned that they wouldn't accept my Nunavut driver's license. The agent mentioned that I had to have a return flight ticket to Nunavut. This was the first time I had ever heard of such a requirement.
Furthermore, when I asked for the customer service phone number or contact information, the agent refused to provide it to me, especially after I mentioned that this was discriminatory towards Nunavummiut.
I find this requirement unreasonable and discriminatory. According to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, all Canadian citizens have the freedom of movement and establishment. As a resident of Nunavut, I should not be subjected to additional conditions to rent a vehicle.

Very unprofessional. I booked well in advance only to be sent an email 2 days before that I would need a travel itinerary out of Ottawa? Even tough I’m a Canadian with a Canadian license.

This place is a joke. The employees are rude and unprofessional. They treat the customers like trash. If anyone wants to rent a vehicle, I would not recommend this location.

Tried hiring a car, they required my license plus another form of photo ID and a copy of my travel itinerary. I had to show less when I came through customs at the airport. The attendant was as helpful as a nun in a brothel when I told her I don't have internet access as I don't have roaming active on my phone. Would NOT recommend Hertz in Ottawa at all.
