I recently had an emergency room visit where I was prescribed painkillers for my kidney. Unfortunately, when I tried to fill my prescription at two different pharmacies, they were unable to provide one of the medicines due to inventory issues(I have had same prescriptions filled by other pharmacies before with no issue). I then went to Health Smart Pharmacy, where they had all three medications in stock. However, they refused to dispense my prescription without first asking my health card and calling the emergency hospital to verify my visit. They explained that this was a precaution against fake prescriptions, but I couldn't help feeling unfairly treated. As a Black person, I felt as though I was being profiled and treated with suspicion, almost as if I were a drug dealer. I would advise other Black individuals to think twice before visiting this pharmacy due to the way I was treated.
