Store has an awful smell and items advertised on sale in store/in flyer are NEVER priced correctly on sale at the cash - posting as Ive seen other recent reviews stating the price discrepancy happening so heads up to ALL to check prices and your receipts to ensure you don’t get ripped off. For context, the past 4-5 times I have gone to this store to get beef or chicken advertised in the flyer(non bar coded items), the sale price advertised is NOT reflected on the product in store and I have had to find the butcher or manager to fix their errors (which the price was in fact wrong every time and someone has had to correct it). Maybe if this only happened 1 or 2 times but almost every time I go in for it to be incorrect is pretty bad. In addition, at least 3-4 other times I have had to go out of my way back to the store after leaving for products being priced wrong and only ONCE (out of the 10 combined times so owner is wrong in saying he gives away free products), was the product given for free. And other times I have not bothered to go back after getting ripped off because it’s a nuisance to me. However the past weekend I picked an item on the shelf with a price tag DIRECTLY under it with the EXACT same product name and the manager would not honour scanning code as he said the bar code numbers were different - despite the product name being identical and there being 10 other bags of it directly above the price tag meaning it was not misplaced. I guess it’s the consumers job to now check bar codes while shopping there… He then accused me of trying to get “free hand outs.”As he rudely could not be any further off - not asking for free hands out - asking to stop ripping customers off and price the items correctly as they are advertised.
Owners response doesn’t take ownership that every time we entered this store in past (we stopped supporting because of getting ripped off), we had to come back because we were OVER charged for items at the cash from the price that was advertised on the shelf. If you’re trying to help the community like you claim, then why are you over charging them? You claim having better prices than everywhere (you don’t - it’s not double the price at no frills for “essentials” like butter and eggs) but that doesn’t matter if you advertise that price but actually charge a higher price at the cash .. if the consumer doesn’t catch the in correct price you charged them, you are pocketing their money.. Get it right.

I was disappointed that most prices do not appear to be discounted at all

There are a lot of great discount groceries in Durham. Unfortunately this is not one of them.
There is a very strong smell throughout the entire store which can best be described as a combination of dirt, sweat and stale spice.
Food recently passed its best before date and non-expired food prices are all in air with what you’d find at no frills or Freshco.
Anything at a decent discount is many months or well over a year past it’s BB dates
I’m honestly surprised the health department lets this place operate
I don’t like to slam small business as I recognize it directly affects the owner’s livelihood, but I honestly feel like the iwners of this place are only concerned about money.
Much room for improvement if I am wrong.

Owner is so nice,I went one time and doesn't have enough money, he told me I will pay next time,so I went back 2days after and repay him.
I always shop here because of my budget,I don't mind about the BB dates.its a big help for those people who doesn't have much like me.

Kept hearing their advertisement on the local radio so I thought I'd check it out. What can I say....not impressed. I found that the items that had an excellent price point were not items I was personally interested in, and the mainstream items could be sourced for the same price or cheaper elsewhere. The store kind of had a flea market vibe to it. Checked it out....out of curiosity but won't be going back.

One of my favorite stores. Yes, a lot of the items are past their best before date but it's a discount store that helps with reducing food waste. The staff are friendly. The prices are extremely reasonable and sometimes right out cheap!! .33 cents for cheezits more often than not!! Strawberries are .99 cents frequently!!

Nice little discount grocery store. You just have to check the best before dates carefully.

Carefully check best before and expiry dates of products. Most items are expired (past best before date well over a year) or have a best before date within a month. Also items are scanned in the checkout for general labeling but prices are entered in manually which results in pricetag discrepancy.

I heard about this store because of a radio ad that said come in and see prices from the 90s. It was misleading.
We visited twice and on our second visit we found products that were months past their best before, and the discount wasn’t that steep. The weekend sales for some produce items are ok.

Great discount store with lots of variety. Very similar to grocery outlet or Sals in Ajax.
All the people leaving negative reviews are uneducated and have no idea how best before dates work. They probably shop at Loblaws for 5x the price and clear have never heard of a grocery outlet. On the plus side all of the ignorance leaves more deals for me!

There is no website to contact the store, however the person in charge of their flyers should think twice about filling the entire neighbourhood with flyers under windshield wipers. There are mailboxes 6 feet away. It rained, and the flyer is now completely stuck to the windshield. It needs to be SCRAPED off, which will damage the windshield. The entire neighbourhood has cars in their driveways with this ridiculous flyer put under the windshield wiper. Walk the additional few steps to put it in a mailbox. Absolute insanity that someone is walking around touching peoples vehicles, and leaving this mess, all for a flyer which can easily be delivered properly like all other businesses.

Prices are attractive. Check best before date on each product before buying.
