I went into the store and saw that there was a very sad dwarf hamster. He looked like he was dying. He was hunched over his water, dry heaving, dipping his nose into the water that he could just barely reach. His whole back was doing a weird roll/flex thing. His little eyes were shut and a bit crusty. Definitely not good animal care. The solo store employee looked stressed and busy. I would never support a store like this.
Looking online I saw that there has been a petition with over 26,000 signatures to shut this store down. Still, the store exists.

I told the employees that the bunnies should have hay as there was none in their cages and I was told it’s not good for them and would give them diarrhea?? Hay makes up almost their entire diet. They are clearly uneducated and letting the poor animals suffer

awful store. gorgeous animals, horribly treated and kept. i don’t know where the animals are taken from but considering the selection of supplies sold in this store, the animals are nothing short of neglected and mistreated. store should be shut down. animals are 3x the market price and ALL of them are visibly depressed and uncomfortable. social animals are not kept or sold in at least pairs, enrichment is 0 in the enclosures, animals are visibly distressed including frantic actions, constant hyperventilation, poor grooming (due to being alone), fatigue, walking or flying in circles around small enclosures, being in small cages within their own enclosures, little food and water, spider webs in enclosures and over top of fish tanks, dead fish left in tanks and overall ignorance of staff and customers choosing to buy and therefore support such a shop. i’d hate to see behind the scenes…

I bought 2 fishes for 21.99 each ended up being 49.70$ with tax and i just handed a 50$ bill. The staff member told me that to make sure take them out the plastic bag after 3 hours bcz there wont be any oxygen left in the bag. I spent an hour on the bus on my way home just to see one of them was dead. I did call the store to get another one as they shouldn’t have sold me a sick fish. Now my fish is alone in the tank and have no one left. the customer service wasn’t helpful and i was gonna buy more fishes as I’m buying another tank but im taking my business somewhere else they dont take responsibility for such incidents.

Just got a new budgie. He is awesome. But to the manager of the store, I do not think clipping the wings of every bird in the store is appropriate. You should instead offer this service when a bird is purchased.

It was a sad visit at this store. Pets did not look comfortable and there were multiple dying/dead fish in plastic cups.

This place should have been shut down years ago. Shame on Bayshore Mall for enabling animal abuse. Absolutely disgusting.

They are abusing the animals!! They do not take care of them properly and give them what they need to survive. Lots of dead animals…

This pet store is a sore spot for me and so many animal lovers in Ottawa. My heart sinks every time I walk by or dare to walk in. Small animals are kept in horrible and unsafe conditions and sold at incredibly high prices. Rabbits are kept in glass display cases without any hay to eat or clean water which is vital to their health and well being. I’ve seen birds in filthy cages with one perch to sit on and no toys. It breaks my heart that anyone could have so little care for these intelligent, loving, and gentle creatures.

The staff is often busy cleaning and/or dealing with visitors. I have always had a pleasant experience. The shop is small, but the staff is quite helpful and has good general knowledge.

This place should be shut down. Along with other animals kept in unsuitable conditions, they had 4 rabbits and 1 guinea pig that had no hay. When I approached the older women who was working about this, she told me that they are too young to have hay. I followed up stating that this is not true and rabbits must have unlimited hay at all times and without it, can become fatal (GI stasis). Not only am I educated on the matter, a google search on rabbit diet will share the same information. I was informed by the seriously uneducated worker that the rabbits had hay before, went to the vet and was told it was making them sick. This women lied to me as a simple google search has shown other citizens complaining about this issue at the same store for years. Additionally, I doubt a store who sells rabbits for profit took a sick animal to see an exotic veterinarian. This is animal cruelty at its finest and this store should be shut down. Please spread the word and boycott PetWorld.

Legit animal abuse, guinea pigs and rabbits are left without water or hay in their cages. Reptiles not getting proper husbandry. This place should be shut down and owners held responsible. Disgusting.
