I’ve been a regular customer at McDonough's Independent and wanted to share my concerns since the change in ownership from Ross's. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed a significant decline in quality control, especially with produce and milk.
I often use the online ordering service, which comes with an additional charge, expecting convenience. However, I’ve had to make multiple return trips due to receiving expired or subpar items. This has been really disappointing, especially since I’ve spoken with representatives who assured me they would look into the matter, but there has been no change.
With the added stress of rising grocery costs, it’s become even more frustrating to deal with these issues.
If there were an option to give zero stars, I would choose that. Don’t be misled by the high ratings; most of them are from before the change in ownership and management.

4. Times I buy outdated stuff, milk that was actually curdled. They are not quality or trustable place at all at all. I don't recommend doing groceries there.

A good option for groceries with prices that rival the nearby competition. Stores are clean.
Great selection of products. Meat, seafood, frozen, dairy, produce, you name it.
Self checkout and standard checkout lanes available.
Plenty of free parking

A few months ago, one of my girlfriends and I didn’t know what to have for lunch. We drove past independent and decided to go inside to see what they had going on. We passed by the sandwich section by the front entrance and came across an egg salad sandwich and a roast beef sandwich…. boy oh boy, were we pleasantly surprised. We couldn’t stop talking about how good these sandwiches were. Now, whenever we hang out, do you know where we go? Independent. And what do we always get? An egg salad sandwich and a roast beef sandwich. Let’s just say, to whoever makes these sandwiches, you’ve changed our lives for the better and we hope both sides of your pillow are always cold.

Very frequently the store has a really good sale on some items. When those items are on sale there’s zero stock. Check back 6/7 days it’s on sale and item doesn’t exist.
Soon as the sale ends the store is fully stocked.
Prices are terrible unless I’m sale in general but that’s every grocery store in Canada.
PC brand often scams in net weight.

It was my first time at the Barrhaven location and everything was in disarray for me. Jordan from produce was really helpful and kind in guiding me around. Really appreciate it and will be back again.

Sketchy merchandising in the meat department, they mix non-sale items in with on sale items but you have to dig for the on-sale ones and check every price tag to see if your being charged the sale price or regular price for that particular item.
