The quality and freshness of the ingredients are poor, just an average Chinese supermarket

Good quality grocery, competitive price, lots of selections of quality Chinese food. One of the best Chinese grocery supermarket in GTA.

As a long-time patron of Sunfood Supermarket for over 15 years, I feel compelled to express my concerns regarding the recent decline in the store's integrity and product quality.
During my last visit this evening, I observed two employees in the produce section—one in a red shirt and the other in blue—engaging in suspicious behavior. They were seen taking a fresh kiwi from a newly opened box while neglecting the damaged and rotten fruit. Such actions not only reflect a lack of ethics but also raise serious questions about the store's oversight and employee conduct.
While the produce prices are competitive compared to other Chinese supermarkets, the freshness of the items is often lacking. Customers should not have to worry about the integrity of their purchases, especially when paying a premium price of $10.99 for a box of kiwis. This experience serves as a reminder to inspect packaged produce carefully.
The store offers various sections, including wholesale/dry goods, dairy, seafood, and meat. However, I strongly advise against purchasing dairy products due to evident deficiencies in their refrigeration system, which poses a risk to consumer health.
Additionally, the cash handling practices at Sunfood Supermarket are concerning. I have encountered multiple instances of being overcharged and receiving incorrect change. Customers should double-check their receipts, as these discrepancies have occurred frequently. The store also imposes a minimum purchase requirement of $10 for debit and $20 for credit transactions, which can be inconvenient.
Customer service is another area of concern, with many employees exhibiting a lack of professionalism and a general dissatisfaction with their roles. This negatively impacts the shopping experience, compounded by language barriers that make communication challenging for non-Chinese speakers.
In conclusion, my recent experiences at Sunfood Supermarket have been disappointing, prompting me to share this review as a public service announcement. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and implements necessary changes to restore the integrity and quality that once defined the store. Prioritizing customer trust, product quality, and a positive shopping experience is essential for any grocery store, and I urge Sunfood Supermarket to reflect on these values moving forward.

Where to begin with this awful establishment. My mom went to this market on a Sunday where the mangers are absent. When she approached the meat isle to buy some grinded meat, two disobedient, arrogant, and old employees gave her possibly one of the worst shopping experiences of her life. The employees gave my mom 4 options for meat that were allowed to be grinded. After my mother chose one, she then saw a cheaper option relative to the inital 4 that were allowed to be grinded but was not informed from the beginning, henceforth asking them to regrind that said option. What seemed to be a normal request was followed by the most abnormal and disgusting behaviour from the employees as they lashed out at her by slamming the meat back into it storage. What’s even worse was their audacity to scold my mother on this matter and even refused to sell the product to my mom, a customer. This level of disrespect comes from their internal battle to see whether their arrogance can exceed their horrendous attitude. If google review had an option for 0 stars or even negative stars, both my mom and I would proceed with that rating.

The meat department staff has a very bad attitude. An extremely infuriating shopping experience.

Good prices, but the store is far from clean. No BBQery here, no hot goods (although there is a hint that there used to be both). Sales are usually for expired packaged foods. Worth going to if you're keen for a deal for fresh foods.

Just decent, not as good as many others Asian supermarkets . They don’t have hot-plate cooked foods section.

Cheap, good quality and many varieties. It has a monitor, so you can catch up even if you make mistakes.

Cheap stale and poor quality. The fresh prices are no cheaper than other supermarkets. The most annoying thing is the extremely poor service quality. Inconsiderate of shoppers. It's really nothing compared to other nearby Chinese supermarkets. Don’t want to go there a second time!
