READ THE REVIEWS - The BBB's conduct in this matter has been nothing short of disgraceful, blatantly favoring businesses that blatantly violate consumer rights. Specifically, the BBB has gone out of its way to defend a deceitful company that is clearly in breach of its own Terms of Service and policy agreements. Instead of holding the business accountable, the BBB has allowed it to continue misrepresenting purchases and has ignored serious red flags, such as the use of a falsified legal business address. This raises serious doubts about the BBB's integrity and its supposed commitment to consumer protection.
If your complaint is assigned to Michelle at the Better Business Bureau, you should seriously reconsider your options. My experience with her was beyond disappointing—Michelle failed to facilitate any sort of fair resolution. Instead, she blatantly sided with the business, despite the glaring violations of consumer protection laws that were completely ignored.
Adding to the frustration, key concerns I raised were completely dismissed. It’s clear to me now that the BBB is more interested in shielding businesses, even those with dubious practices, than actually helping consumers.
If you're looking for someone who will genuinely fight for a fair resolution, do yourself a favor and request a different case manager—or better yet, avoid the BBB altogether. Trusting them to mediate this dispute was a complete waste of time, as Michelle provided no meaningful support or mediation and closed the case in favor of the business without addressing the legitimate issues raised. Angela, as Michelle's superior, was no better, simply rubber-stamping Michelle's biased actions and further proving the BBB's lack of commitment to fairness.
A class-action lawsuit against the BBB for negligence sounds about right - I have much evidence in my case to prove BBBs negligence and deceitful actions.

Basically an industry association masquerading as a public interest non-profit. Not a fresh take, by any means, but worth repeating until the BBB is shut down.
Based on what I’ve seen, consumers are more likely to be burned by a business with BBB accreditation than a business without it, because shady businesses have incentive to seek accreditation to shield themselves with manufactured legitimacy.
For its part, BBB has a tendency to decline to process valid complaints and negative reviews. Indeed, negative reviews that were once posted are no longer available.

Oops! Its July and you are on holidays until January!!! Nice!!! I will try again tomorrow.
I can appreciate that you are a non profit, and the challenges to find resources you must have.
And kids, please be kind. These folks are on the side of fairness so we should be cognizant of this and try to be so ourselves!
Cheers!

I have called the central Ontario BBB 5 times this week to get some assistance with getting a message that was sent to me. 4 times I have been sent to an answering machine and left a message to ask that someone help me out to get a message from BBB. The fifth time I called I was told, in a very rude way, that “this is a nonprofit and they are short staffed so I could either wait or get a lawyer “ by a reception worker. Then she hung up on me Why is it my fault that there is no staff? Why am I treated rudely because I’m trying to stay on top of my claim? This reminds me of the business I made the complaint about. Who takes care of complaints regarding treatment by the BBB? Why not simply tell people that there will be a week long wait before anyone gets ahold of you. Then they don’t have to deal with people calling several times?

We are Empower Home Comfort, an HVAC company that currently services the Toronto and surrounding GTA area. We recently started our accreditation process, and it was just such a pleasant experience with the rep we had that we wanted to share with everyone. It started with just a quick online form, which, after filling out, we were informed a representative would be in touch with us shortly. Within 30 minutes, our rep Susan Burdey reached out to us. Susan was the epitome of friendliness, cheerfulness, and professionalism. She quickly introduced us to BBB's services and the perks of becoming accredited, ways it would be helpful to our business, information and documents required, and quoted us on the cost. The process moved along quickly and smoothly with Susan's guidance; she followed up every step along the way and was incredibly quick and helpful along the way. She really demonstrated a lot of care and attention to the account she was helping with when we had requested that we only put the new number we've assigned to BBB on our BBB page. Susan reached out to us and let us know that based on their experience, they would recommend that we also include a more established number, which, when searched for, would lead customers to our website and other places where we have an online presence. This is more reassuring for the customer and would cause less confusion. This was excellent advice, and we really appreciate being reached out to and informed about this. Susan is always such a delight to hear from both via email and over the phone, we couldn't have asked for a better BBB rep!

How is it allowed for BBB to write, post and wrongfully accuse other micro businesses ( non members of this racquet club ) of wrong doing without establishing facts from both sides ( consumer and business owner or person in charge ) ? Ah maybe because business is not a member and financially not capable to legally pursue accusations. So please read other reviews, you should get good idea what is going on here, enough said. Oh one more thing- to all “ consumers “ please contact appropriate government body that will help you instead contacting non to profit outfit pretending that will help you ( all they can do is post and publish bad reviews, exactly what Im doing now, same how they did it to me).

Had a horrible experience with a top rated BBB accredited business. Owner was an ex-con with a long history of fraud. I only found this out when it was too late, and lost tens of thousands of dollars. I picked this company partially because of the false sense of security BBB accreditation gave. I advise that you Never trust or rely on BBB ratings. In my experience it’s utterly meaningless.Response to owner feedback:I am unable to provide any information. I had to spend thousands on lawyers and had to agree to non disclosure. I don’t believe you sufficiently vet your accredited businesses at all. Highbridge Construction ripped off hundreds of people and they were accredited (not who I dealt with).I posted this so that consumers don’t make the mistake, I believe, of relying on BBB.
