We had the most wonderful time here at Elmhirst’s Resort this week. We arrived Monday and are saying goodbye after 5 glorious days. This resort is perfect for families looking for a standalone lakefront cottage with unbeatable views and loads of activities for the kids. We brought our dogs and they loved it here! And the massages we had the spa were some of the best we’ve ever had. We will be back next year!!

This was our second stay at Elmhirst’s. Overall very nice experience. The pub and the dining room are both great. Our dinner was served family-style, as requested, and was very good. In future, it would be even nicer if you served the various foods in separate dishes so we could pass them around instead of piling it all on a huge single platter. The beef was really excellent, as were the Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Service was great in both the pub and dining room.
Cottage 7 was the perfect layout for our extended family group. I suggest you service the patio door; it’s extremely difficult to use. The cottage had ample heat. The mini-split heat pumps worked well but I suspect there’s an issue with the programming of the Ecobee thermostat. Despite us setting it and selecting HOLD, at least 1 heat pump continued to run and temperature continued to rise. All baseboard heaters were selected off. We were forced to turn heat off and on to control it.
Beds, linens and towels were all good. Lots of hot water too. The wagon ride was excellent. Kids loved the pool. Overall, quite comfortable and fun. Staff are really great. We’d definitely return.

Our family gathered for an early Christmas and the four bedroom cottage was perfect for us. The snow came just in time to add to the magic. The staff we great and we did not want to come home.

Never again.
This was our second time here. We enjoy the location and most of the staff are polite and helpful.
My issue is that they lie and add fake taxes to the total after the fact. I checked on booking.com and found the cabin for about $945 total. I called the resort and was quoted 920 all in. I chose to go with the resort because it only required a $300 deposit whereas bookings wanted the whole amount. Also it was a little cheaper.
So I paid 300 deposit and received a confirmation
Email but there was no total owing listed on the email which I found strange. On check in day I asked for my balance and was told $620, which was what I thought.
The day of check out they charged me 620 first and then a second amount of 124. When I inquired about this they said it was taxes. After I confirmed with Fran when I first booked that the total amount was 920 and after I confirmed at check in my balance was 620, they thought it would be okay to add “taxes”. We spend over 1000 for a dirty cottage ( I had to sweep the floor upon arrival and the floor hadn’t seen a mop in weeks), and we ate at the restaurant both nights spending over 300. And this is what they pull? Never again. Will find another resort for next year that does lie for the sake of $124.

Rooms: Small, quaint, standard cottage-fare.
Nearby activities: There is a pool and a gym in the general area.
Safety: Roads are winding and hilly dirt backroads, can be challenging during fiercer winter days.
Walkability: Gravel roads and paths
Food and drinks: There is a nice small bar in the main area.
Noteworthy details: Cottages have a firestove and central AC, some appliances are a bit dated. You will have to walk your garbage, recycling and compost up the road to a garbage depot, may be difficult for guests that are older or have mobility challenges.

I always love staying at this resort. Everyone is so kind and down to earth. The cottages are so cozy and have everything we needed. I would highly recommend a stay here. It is so relaxing.
Don't forget to book in at the spa!!
