I only go to this location for dog licenses but have never needed any other services from the SPCA . My review is based on the service of the employees at the license portion of the building. I have always been met with friendly, helpful service. The location is very good being in a quiet area of the city and there is always plenty of parking.

We recently had to make the sad decision to put our dear Miss Loxy to sleep. She was 18 and l got her as a rescue in 2011. We were very pleased about the care and compassion we and see received.

We are new to fostering but with the help of Natalie Smith from the foster department this experience has been truly enjoyable. She has made our first foster experience nice and smooth. Natalie is knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. We look forward to fostering more animals in the future.

Behind the HBSPCA's charming facade, a shocking truth lurks: despite abundant donations, they stockpile resources, abandoning loyal caregivers like myself and the cats we serve. I've begged for aid, only to be rebuffed, leaving me no choice but to spend my savings to feed the colony. This is despite the promise I received years ago when I signed up to care for the cats, that I would receive food to help support them. The HBSPCA's priorities are clear: wealth over welfare, red tape over rescue. The cats pay the price for their neglect.
Consider donating to a reputable rescue organization, and don't forget to review their financial statements to ensure transparency and accountability. Sadly, some rescues also hoard funds, so it's crucial to do your research and find a trustworthy group that truly prioritizes animal welfare.
Did you know the HBSPCA did nothing to help Max, an unfixed community cat? Meanwhile, Fern is not a feral colony cat; she's an owned pet. Countless unfixed cats remain in the area. Where are you when it comes to trapping and TNRing these community cats?
Why are you trying to make it look like you had a hand in helping him??

We had an excellent experience here adopting a kitten. All of the staff clearly all have a love for what they do. The location was clean and welcoming.
They were very thorough in making sure we would be good owners for the adoptee. They gave us all the needed information to make sure there was a smooth transition in our home.
Would recommend anyone to use the services here.

Just contacted SPCA about a cat that gave birth to 5 kittens under a porch and was told that they will not accept them. Really? Isn't that what you people do? I thought you looked after the welfare of animals in need! We regularly donate bags of food to the drop off bins which will end now. No wonder people throw kittens in a box or bag and leave it in a ditch or at a vet clinic. Our vet clinic has more compassion than you because they will take in abandoned kittens and adopt them out. Shame on the SPCA. I am so disappointed with this organization. People should know this. What do you actually Do?
UPDATE: I was just reading a review from a month ago that said the following: "We had a female cat and she kept showing up on our porch and she had a litter of kittens had them we tried to keep them and find good family's but within 3 months she was pregnant again. Before they were gone but our family is severely allergic so unfortunately we surrendered Them and the kittens were posted and within weeks I recommend this place if you have a pet you cannot care for very easy and you know they are going to a good home thank you very much."
Your response to my post as you can read below stated that you would not take stray kittens. Please explain why you will take some stray kittens but not others. This is very upsetting as we are trying to do the right thing and want to get them good homes but haven't found any yet.

The sudden and unexpected passing of our one-year-old, seventy-five-pound canine companion was a deeply distressing event. Throughout this difficult process, Hamilton SPCA provided invaluable assistance and unwavering support, which we greatly appreciate.

I received so much care when I had to put my dog down. I came in abruptly and understandably upset and they took me and my dog in right away. I also received a condolence card a few weeks later. Thank you ?
