Performed a transmission inspection, kept me up to date with what was happening, got me in a day ahead of appointment and were very kind and friendly when I went in to pay the bill. I appreciated the communication I received as it was detailed and regular. (Texts and paper) . Spencer at the front desk was courteous and respectful. It took 4 days to get a loaner( car was in shop total 7-8 days) but I was thankful to have it after no vehicle for 4 days.I mentioned to a couple people and they thought the price for used starter and installation was expensive…I’m just trusting McPhersons gave me a honest price as I’m not into cars and mechanical things. The quality of service and communication was great until I asked for a breakdown on the quote I received to replace a window motor.Mechanic diagnosed that the front passenger window of my Hyundai Tuscon was not rolling up because the motor was seizing and stated the regulator is fine. I was quoted just over $1000 HST incl to fix it.A window motor for my make and model runs around $85-$200. The technician noted that their supplier, NAPA, did not have the part, so they were quoting me on the price from the dealership (I specifically went to a local, independent shop as dealerships are notorious for overcharging). I asked the technician on the phone how much time they had quoted me for to do the repair, and he said 2 hours, which would come to $272 + HST. Even with the dealership part, $300 for the part plus $300 for the labour (tax included) does not amount to the $1000 I was quoted. I was also told via email from Spencer that the cost is $90 to diagnose the issue (understandable since the technician would need to take the door apart to diagnose the issue), but that that cost would be reimbursed if I went ahead and had the repair done while the door was still off. When I pointed out how the total amount I was quoted vs the breakdown the technician gave me wasn’t adding up to the same amount, the technician I spoke to said he’s not familiar with what I spoke to the service manager about, and that no service manager would be available to speak to until next Tuesday.If I wanted to pay above market prices, I would have gone to a dealership. Macpherson’s seemed like an honest, transparent shop, but now I don’t believe that. I’ll have to replace the window motor myself, as I won’t be going back to this mechanic due to the lack of transparency.
