Went in on a Friday afternoon, the store was dead and there were many employees around. Some said hi to me and one asked if I needed help finding something. He pointed me upstairs and said “last time I was up there like 6months ago that’s where they were”. The item I was looking for was upstairs and there were at least 3-4 employees around the area. Some stocking shelves, one who was in the running shoes area hiding on his phone behind a shelf, and another who walked right past me without looking at me, saying hi or offering help. I was in the section for quite some time trying on running vests and though the man on his phone was not helping anyone, he did not once approach me. Everyone there seemed to be unhappy and not wanting to help customers. The location has better selection than some others but their customer service was nonexistent and extremely disappointing. The nicest person/interaction I had was when walking out of the store the security alarm went off because they forgot to take off the plastic bit.
I am a bigger bodied person and I’d like to think the lack of help with the running vest had nothing to do with that but it definitely didn’t help my self consciousness buying an item for something I am already feeling impostor syndrome about.
Overall if you need something specific it might be a good store to choose but if not I would avoid it and go somewhere like SAIL where customer service is a lot better.

Went to MEC on Brant Street in the afternoon on Sat Aug 31. The store wasn't busy & I waited patiently in front of the garmin watch locked display case for employee assistance. Waited approx 7-10 minutes while staff continually walked by without offering to help. Two staff members were even standing by the front door a few feet away chatting with each other the entire time. Could not make eye contact with anyone & finally had to flag someone down who referred me to one of the guys who was standing by the door nearby. I felt like I was bothering them bc the staff member opened the case, handed me the watch, looked disinterested & didn't offer any advice or additional info about the product. At this point I had lost all interest as well and decided to make my purchase elsewhere.

Was just at MEC this morning and it’s weird how there are was a rep talking to one customer intently and really giving one customer all of his attention while i stand there and he doesn’t even look at me. The lady he was helping even told him to help me and he did for a quick second got my slippers and walked back to the same lady. It was just a weird experience that i felt he didn’t want to help me at all. Just plain weird. I had to walk away and leave. I guess he can’t multi-task with atleast 2 customers.

Lame. This brand used to be good. Things are half the price at SAIL and SAIL has 200% more selection for people who actually love nature, spending time in nature. This store is for looking the part. Where was all the camping gear? Geriatric selections.

Visited Monday July 15th in preparation for a trip and found what I needed within 20 minutes. Exceptional selection for portaging needs and all things in between. It's like I'm talking to fellow friendly campers who I just met but are not uptight at all and want to talk.

Appreciate the service received from the young man who helped me with figuring out which hiking shoes were a good fit for me. I believe he sold 3 pairs of shoes in the small time frame in which I was there. Very kind and patient! I have fewer kind words for the cashier but I will live. Might consider trying out the shoes at this location and buying online as a compromise in the future!
