We had an extremely unprofessional and unpleasant experience with Backyard Pros. Initially, we contacted Staining Solutions to stain our 750-square-foot deck. Shortly after, two representatives, Hamza and Mike (owners of Backyard Pros), showed up to provide a quote. Their quote included pressure washing the deck, applying two coats of stain, and starting the job within a week.
This turned out to be the worst service experience we’ve had in years of renovations. Avoid this company at all costs.
Despite contacting Staining Solutions, we received a quote from Backyard Pros, who then subcontracted the job to a third company with little deck staining experience. The subcontractors arrived without basic tools like a hammer, drill, screwdriver, or appropriate stain brushes. Additionally, they immediately tried to upsell us on staining our fence and gazebo and would beat the Backyard pros quotes, which we had no interest in doing.
Representatives from Backyard Pros gave conflicting information about subcontracting. Hamza denied subcontracting, claiming the subcontractors were employees of Backyard Pros (though the subcontractors didn't even know who Hamza was), while Mike admitted they subcontract all the time and that the subcontractors were friends of his.
The estimate included pressure washing, a service listed on their website and confirmed by both Mike and Hamza during their visit. However, the subcontractors did not pressure wash the deck. When I questioned this, Mike claimed it was only a complimentary service and not necessary, contradicting their initial statement that it was essential for prepping the deck.
Communication throughout the process was almost nonexistent. They failed to provide a work schedule, didn't deliver stain samples as promised, and didn't even show up at the job site when they said they would—twice. The subcontractor randomly showed up at 7:30 PM on a Friday to measure the deck without prior notice, a month after the initial quote. Backyard Pros only contacted us to demand payment, ignoring basic emails and texts for weeks and not informing us that the work was subcontracted despite stating they would do the work themselves.
Only one coat of stain was applied instead of the quoted two. When we asked them to apply the second coat and agreed to pay once the job was complete, both representatives of Backyard Pros became belligerent, calling us frauds and scam artists, and threatening to put a lien on our home. This happened twice, once via text and another time on the job site. They demanded full payment despite not completing the job.We ended up paying them a little less for the job as to not have to deal with them.
We strongly advise against hiring this company for any backyard work, especially deck staining.

I am very pleased with the deck Backyard Pros built for us last summer. I was outside today cleaning the deck and was very impressed with how everything still looked great! Highly recommended. Mike was awesome to deal with.

I wanted to take a few moments to share my experience with this wonderful team. Mike and the people in the office helped us design our backyard, several revisions were made and we finally settled for Trex Transcend decking. The interlock choice they recommended and showed us in the 3d design was very appealing. Our backyard was fully transformed with the help of Mike and his crew. Some days they didn't show up due to rain, however the project was well handled, completed in a timely manner, no surprise costs and most of all great attention to details. I highly recommend this company if you're looking for a reliable and professional service.

I have to say this is the worst company ever.
They never answer the phone, return voice messages or reply to emails. If you are lucky the assistant Stephanie will schedule an appointment for repairs and never falls through. Lies after lies. This company needs to be shut down. They will take ur money and run. Bad workmanship, untrustworthy and shady. I wish I can say the poor communication was only with me but my neighbours all experienced the same treatment. No coincidence this is regular service u will receive as customer.
Save ur money and invest with a reputable company.
Will report this company and I hope the media finds out.

Don't bother calling anyone else! These folks are the whole package.I reached out to many fencing contractors. Some never dignified my inquiry, most simply had me complete an online form and sent me an impersonal estimate. Not Backyard Pros! Stephanie got back to me quickly (!), in what I came to recognize as her usual self: warm, clear, friendly, knowledgable, informative, considerate and in all ways professional.Next, the quote: VERY fair - just enough below their competitors to make me feel like I was getting a good price and Backyard Pros were still making some money.Reliability: first of all, they came promptly to see me (during busy season!) to finalize the quote. After that, every question I had was answered completely and within a day, often with apologies for having taken so long. When Stephanie said Mike would come, Mike came. When Eli fell sick on the job, Mike did his share too while Eli slept in the truck. Honestly, who else WORKS like this anymore?!Quality: Mike didn't wait for me to tell him the original plan wasn't working, he fixed the original plan, came up with a practical, attractive solution and just implemented it. Any little concern I had along the way was taken care of, usually without my even having to bring it up! The finished product is flawless and satisfies all my needs.Willingness and Problem Solving: My backyard is pretty small, but presented several considerable challenges. Mike saw and assessed them going in. Life being as it is, the reality may have been worse than expected but I never heard a complaint. He and Eli just got the job done. On one issue, there was a judgement call required. Mike let me make the call and he respected my decision, even though it would have been easier for him to talk me out of it.Follow up: Before leaving, on the final day, Mike told me to email if there were any issues. I can't imagine that there will be, but I have every confidence he will be back to address them if there are.This is an honest business, with lots of experience and expertise, and these are really, really good people.Many, many thanks to Stephanie, Mike and Eli!

Our fence and deck were both in desperate need to be replaced, so we decided to call Backyard Pros to help us out, and it was the best decision we could of made for our backyard.From start to finish, they have been extremely helpful, concise, and transparent with the work and the entire process. They gladly answered any questions we had and pointed us to make the right choice.The work was excellent and we absolutely love our new deck and fence. Highly recommend this company!

You are on your own as soon as you provide them with payment. You would not be able to get in touch with them in any way to discuss any possible issues, to say nothing about fixing them. They would blatantly ignore your calls and emails no matter the effort or how assertive you are. You consider yourself lucky if you can fix the issues after them yourself. Otherwise, prepare to file BBB complaints and take your case to court.

Despite the message from the owner below, I have not heard from the company. I plan to take the company to small claims court.Had fence and deck built. Warranty work on deck has been required for three years and company has not showed up and will not answer my calls. I paid a lot of money for my composite deck and expected the job to be well done. Also, contracted a 6 ft fence and company owner built a 5 ft fence without advising me in advance.A week has gone by since the owner’s response and I have not heard from them.Service: Wood fence installation

We hired backyard pros to build a new deck for our yard, and the final deck they built is indeed very nice, and we are quite happy with it.Unfortunately, getting to that final point involved a lot of headaches - even excluding the ones outside of Backyard Pros' control, like material delivery.The biggest issue was communication. The only point of contact I had was the receptionist, even the team working at my house wasn't particularly willing to talk to me. They didn't tell me when they arrived or left, and when we found a problem I could only send an email and hope that we would eventually hear a reply.The other main issue and timing. Throughout the entire project, there was not a single time that their team arrived at my house when I expected. Being a little late is understandable, but several times they arrived early - once by more than an entire day. No call, no notice, just show up a day early and stroll into my yard. They didn't even knock to say they've arrived.The final issue was polish. The initial work was done well with attention to detail... except for two design mistakes. When they came back to fix these items, the work they did was much polished, and lead to more issues that needed fixing.In the end, everything *did* get fixed, and the deck is great. But there was a lot of email tag, and too much frustration and confusion as a result.

Communication is extremely poor.The stated in first email that they would be happy to help. Then failed to respond for 3 weeks, even after I reached out multiple times.Would NOT recommend to anyone. Look elsewhere if you want to save time!!
