We only spent one night at Shady Oaks. We stayed in a pull-through site at the front of the park. The showers and laundry room were well-kept and clean. Regrettably the grill was not open the day we arrived (Monday). Although there is a railroad track at the front of the park, we did not here a train.

We stayed 2 nights here camping with full hook up. Site we booked had electrical issues so we had to move. If that's our big problem, we're good with it
We are on our way out of country, so had planned to just stop in, rest. Fortunately for us timing was during the eclipse which was amazing at the camp, right from our picnic table- about 98%. The campground itself is nice. Laundry is excellent. Staff & management extremely nice/ helpful. As for the sites, appears they are "cleaning up" some "old timers". Sites were set up very strange but I think they will change that too. They have an on site bar & grill which was a bonus for us. Full bar, pool tables, food, indoor/ outdoor seating, events, covered area outdoors for corn hole, fire pits for age ambiance. Overall it worked well for us. Janice in office was extremely nice. Sam helped us with the electrical issue but ended up moving anyway. There is a train that comes by right at the entrance but we only heard it 2x so it was not bothersome.

We were on our way to padre island for the week when our truck broke down on the highway. We were pulling a 42ft 5th wheel, which made it more complicated. Our daughter and her husband were with us with their camper. It was a Saturday afternoon and everything seemed to be closed. To make a long story short we spent 4 hours on the side of the road trying to get a tow for the truck and camper. We have road side assistance from State Farm and they said they had someone coming at 5 pm. Then around 4:30 pm they called and told us they could not send anyone. I told my daughter to call a nearby campground and take their trailer their and I would stay with our rig. She called shady oaks and talked to the owner Rodney. She told him our situation and he said no problem…..if we could find a tow for the truck he would come and get our camper and put it in a site until the truck got fixed….what !!! So that is what he did. He was our angel that day for sure. The campground was super clean and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. They even had a full size restaurant and bar with GREAT food. They also had live music and pool tables with a great outdoor venue. The truck did get fixed, but we loved the campground so much we cancelled our padre trip and stayed the rest of the week at shady oaks.

I stayed here for a few months. Staff is friendly. Bar/pub on site is a hopping place on the weekend with good enough food. Free wifi is a joke. It didn't even register on any device I had. The laundry room is way over priced, you'd be better off to go to a regular laundry mat. Some interesting characters live there. Price is all-inclusive for electric, water, and sewer. Excellent shade, good size lots, overall a good enough place to stay.
