Werner truck merged into a different lane making traffic slam on brakes. When I got next to him he was on the phone and then he merged in on me.

As a former driver on the Dollar General account... I would suggest you only use the Dollar General account for getting your first year of experience. The main problem is the god awful stores, usually the ones in the city. Some of them have no business being in the dilapidated building they're in. You need to be extra careful about said Dollar Generals. They are often built, or the buildings selected with no planning or regard to how the driver will get there. While they forgive minor incidents with a 8 month probation... they add up and by the time they're done with you... Your CDL will be worthless due to it being recorded on your DAC.Apart from the stores... The trailers are in bad condition and poorly maintained (Jury Rigged). 99% of the breakdowns will be due to the lift gates. Most of the trailers on the dry side are former reefers with slotted floors, which tend to shred the wheels of heavily laden rolltainers. Also the rolltainers are loaded quite incompetently. Often overloaded and with heavy things on top of light things. There is no rhyme or reason with how the toppers are loaded sometimes. You can find toppers from the first drop with the toppers on the second or last drop. Many of the stores are in very rural areas with weight restricted roads and your tablet will tell you to go some bizarre routes due to this. Such as farm roads and worse. Normally they will make these stores the last drop where you would be light enough to travel on the weight restricted roads, but not always the case. Many loading areas for all stores are not even, so you'll be unloading a trailer that's tilted or pointed uphill. Unloading the trailers isn't for everyone unless you like the physical aspect of it. I treated it like exercise. The office management for the most part are nice and easy to work with. Though sometimes new loads get flung at you even before you start unloading your current load, or they ask you to be back at noon when your 400 miles away.Personally I did enjoy it and took pride delivering to stores in the countryside. Though I dreaded delivering to some of the stores in the city and unfortunately those very stores cost me dearly. I worked with the employees of the store by seperating the food and chemical rolltainers, which is actually Dollar General policy, but very few followed it. I tried to make sure my trailer was fully loaded with dunnage (empty, tote or cardboard rolltainers) so that the DC wouldn't be in danger of shutting down. Which does happen at times when they run out of rolltainers or totes. But it was all for naught. If you plan on pursuing a career as a Dollar General driver, just be extra cautious when navigating the stores. Most of the incidents I had was not the first time. In cases It was the 9th time it happened according to the store managers. In retrospect I wish I switched to OTR with Werner instead of falling for the appeal of being home every week. While this could easily be the place you start your career, it can just as easily destroy it along with your livelihood.

Good job but make sure your body won't let you down. I still wish I could have survived it physically. If you can hang in...Go for it
