I like how the kittens and cats can run freely within their age groups. Did not like that some of the cats seemed to like to go after hands and fingers quite aggressively. Found out that one of the volunteers likes to put gloves on and allow the cats to attack their fingers. Not a good thing to teach cat in my opinion. But that is just my opinion.

The most rude people.... Judged me for my health issues and not having a running vehicle.... Seemed upset at me for needing help a few times with my cats that I took in from the streets. Wanted me to surrender my cat instead of help me. Even said I'd donate.... made it seem like I'm letting my cat suffer when the problem just started and I started reaching out and figuring it out. Long way from when owner drove to my house and dropped off the eye drops in my mailbox. A felony but that's ok I wont rat you out to anyone. I'm not as petty ubless im forced to be. They know where I live so that's kind of scary but I also am not gonna be silenced when somone is rude to me..... They said I was letting my cat suffer but they said Tuesday they could get him for surrender.... That's not suffering? I think the owner or director or whatever lost her way and I told her that.... It's Youngstown quit expecting high paying perfect people with no issues.... I'll remove this post when they do the right thing and apologize and treat people with respect.YOURE A SHELTER HOW CAN YOU TREAT PEOPLE LIKE DOOKIE????

We went today to look for an additional to our family. All of our animals are rescues and I am very familiar with the process. We had 3 in mind and needed to check if there were holds and or health issues. The lady we had to speak with was put off by the fact we were bothering her and started off very rude with a condescending tone. She asked several times if all my animals were vaccinated and I answered yes, she states "And I will check" I said ok. That's when the whole encounter went south. She never stated we couldn't take the application home, until I asked to take the application home so I could fill it out and return with my husband and he could look at our final selections. I said I was leaving then (to retrieve my husband) and she kept treating me I was doing something wrong just by being there. Of course, I couldn't hold my tongue when she was speaking very unprofessional and nasty to my daughter. As we were walking out her and her 2 volunteers were talking about us.Yes I was rude, but the total experience from the first moment of walking in and not knowing if we could go in because nobody acknowledged us to the yelling as we left. They are really aggressive people and not kind people. There are cats that are sneezing and/or cough, eyes are goopy, and most are thin. There is a "sick" room that is attended by volunteers with no medical knowledge. I feel that it might be a hoarding situation. All we wanted was to give a furbaby a great home, but instead was ran off by the rudest group of unprofessional people I've ever encountered trying to rescue.Sad.

Me and my girlfriend got a lovely little kitty there, who we've had for about a month. They have quite a large facility with plenty of cats, and they keep the cats in multiple rooms seemingly to avoid the adult cats getting mixed up with the kittens. There's also cats who live in the office area, and all of them are adoptable, too. Each room has plenty of things to keep the cats interested, with plenty of toys and things to climb on, including a big wooden tree-like structure in one room. There's also plenty of beds and litter boxes, and the cats seem to be fed properly with all of the food that gets donated to them.Staff was friendly, and told us everything we'd need to know before adoption, including what food to start them on, which flea treatments to go with and which ones to avoid, and also just stuff about general care. They gave us a sheet with all of this information to take home as well. They don't offer same-day adoption, but the approval process was quick. For us it only took one week, and we were even able to change which cat we wanted last-minute. Adoption fees range between around $80 and $130 depending on the cat, but all of the cats are spayed, neutered, dewormed, and have flea treatment done, as well as regular vet checkups while they're at the shelter. They also trim the cat's nails on the day of adoption, and you can even bring your cat in periodically for a nail trimming for a $5 donation per-visit. We brought our cat in recently and it was a quick and easy process.Overall, this seems like a great no-kill shelter to go to if you want to adopt a cat. They have a wide selection with a great facility, and the volunteers do a great job taking care of them all.

Worst experience I've ever had. It was so far away andSoon as I drop sooner we dropped them off. We were crying about it so we had to go back and pay the extra to get him back. I told you it was just too many cats in that place. I don't know how they could survive lol

Staff is wonderful, and lots of beautiful cats to see, play with, cuddle, and most importantly adopt.

The sign on the door says kids under 10 are not aloud in the cat rooms. The man and woman in the office say it’s to prevent cat scratches and bites. Ok that’s understandable. Obviously we need to adopt a cat that is ok with kids in the house. I want to include my kids in the adoption process to make sure the cat is a good fit for our family. The woman and man were very rude when I questioned the process of introducing the kids and potential kitties.I stayed between the first and second door as a courtesy because of the sign but was treated like crap for bringing my kids an hour away to look and fill out an application. The lady basically told me I could still fill one out but that she WAS NOT EVEN GOING TO LOOK AT IT!!She mentioned about making an appointment we looked at the website, I didn’t see where is said an appointment was needed or to not bring your kids..Obviously the right cat for us isn’t going to be found there, anyone looking to adopt with KIDS UNDER 10. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.I had been to west side cats many years ago and loved the rescue, I was really hoping to adopt from them, disappointed we were treated that way as soon as we walked in the door.Oh and don’t pull in the farthest parking spot to the left by the white house you might get a flat tire

Would give less stars is possible. My children found the perfect cat who just wanted hugs which is just what my youngest wants to do. He is very lovable and wants to hold the cat all day. We spent 2 hours there and he found the perfect little girl who seemed to love him back. Received a call today that we were denied because we have a dog that is crated when I am not home. Instead of this making the home safer for both the dog and cat they claimed it is the reason we were denied. The dog is a large breed that is commonly feared and discriminated against; however, she is a loving lap dog. She is crated because the breed is also known for stealing and eating things such as socks and paper towels, etc., every chance they get. We are working on getting rid of it but she needs more time. I have had this breed of dog in my family for 45 years. They were all like this. One my parents' almost died when I was a child because he ate the flooring and carpet when left alone and it plugged his intestines, which exploded. He required intense surgery and was lucky to survive. So yes, until I am certain my dog can be trusted she will be crated. Sorry if that makes me evil.Honestly I feel like I dodged a bullet, though. The other reviews are correct. Many of the cats seem ill. While I was filling out an adoption form a cat crawled in my lap and sneezed a spray of thick green mucus that hit me in the arm and splattered my son who was sitting next to me. The woman had to give us paper towels to wipe the slime off. I asked friends who have cats and they confirmed this is not normal. While we were there they tried to brush it off by saying they have allergies and this is the time they start to kick in. According to Google allergies cause clear discharge. Green indicates an infection that needs to be addressed.

We had to surrender our beloved kitten Panther due to an eviction (not because of an animal issue-the siding outside accidentally got melted by our grill being too close to the house). We honestly thought this place would be good to house our sweet fur baby. The lady at the front desk was a little snippy. We brought Panther's silver food and water bowls, his litter box and his toy out kids made him. When we surrendered him, he was healthy, had silky soft shiny black fur, with a reddish tint. He was also skittish and timid. He was not aggressive. I told the front desk woman we would be back for him once we got a new place. She rudely stated that we'd have to bring our landlord w/us to confirm we are allowed to have a pet at our residence. I explained that Valley View closes their office at 2pm and since the shelter doesn't open til 4 pm it would be impossible to reach her to confirm. My husband and I hated to leave Panther there and were a crying mess when we left. When we got our new place 2 months later I called to see if he was still there and a worker confirmed he was indeed still there. I inquired about his adoption fee and was told it was $80.00, and that I'd have to come down there to fill out an application which I did. I brought his carrier, fully intending to bring him back home w/us. Once again the front desk lady was super rude and snapped at me, "You need to wait for a minute!" Still in a good mood when she finally gets to me she again snaps,"You won't be able to take him home today!" So as I start to fill out the application she trys telling me his adoption fee is $120.00,I corrected her and said,"No, it's actually $80.00. She checks his paperwork and confirms that I'm right. Then she begins grilling me about why I never took him to the vet,how long we had him, brings up our eviction and rudely asks,"What changed. Before you weren't financially responsible for him because you never had him see a vet?!" I tell her we did have a vet appointment set up, he was an inside cat and doesn't even go out. She kept bringing up the eviction and acting like we're broke and stupid. She says "There's no guarantee you'll even get him back because I have to decide w/ 2 other people if you're fit enough to adopt Panther back." She made me feel like a piece of crap under her feet!!?Then she dismissed me by saying I can go see him if I want to. She airily says he's down the hall by the laundry area. I had to really search for him. I finally find him and he hissed at the gentleman holding him. He didn't even recognize me when I called his name. I be t to pet him and ensure him it was okay, he bared his teeth at me, growled and hissed. I picked him up to comfort him by holding him close like I used to always do,instead of him purring because he was happy to see me,he turned and took a swipe towards my face as he hissed at me. He jumped out of my arms, went over by an all white cat who lounged on a shelf and he started growling at the cat, swiping at it too. The white cat did the same thing to him. I tried to once again pet him by the door of the room he was confined to but he hissed and moved away. His once beautiful fur was no longer shiny soft or silky and it was matted together in places. His black studded collar he came in with was gone and replaced by their own. His eyes were crusty and clearly had not been cleaned. When I confronted the rude front desk lady about Panther she once was rude saying how "he's stressed." The entire place reeked of urine , especially the front entrance. Normal cats are supposed to be playful and full of life. These poor cats looked like furry little zombies. She said she'd call me back after speaking to my landlord and she'd have a decision soon...a full week later and I have yet to hear back from her!! Also a friend of mine pointed out that she used to run another cat shelter on the other side of town and did the same thing over at that one...it got shut do

Take your donations and support to other shelters. West side cats is only interested in running power trips on potential owners and want invasive information including your finances. The “director” is extremely rude and not qualified to be there.I have owned and cared for cats over the past 30 years and they live inside and go outside when they want. Never once have I had a cat not come back from being outside, be injured by another cat or hit by a vehicle. The “director” will not approve you unless your cat is imprisoned in your home for the rest of its life. Many of the cats & kittens at West Side Cats had crusty eyes and mucous runny from their noses and mouths. They’re so concerned about adopters caring for the cats yet it doesn’t look like they’re doing much for their health care.

I am so glad that I came across an adorable cat named Winston from Westside Cats. Jane was so kind, caring, and professional with talking to me about adopting Winston. I highly recommend going to Westside Cats when you want to adopt a kitten or cat. They are a wonderful shelter that takes amazing care of their cats. The adoption process went very smoothly and I couldn't of asked for better people or a better place then Westside Cats to adopt a cat from. I will definitely choose Westside Cats whenever I want to adopt a cat or kitten in the future.

Great no kill shelter with a large selection of cats. They have large rooms where you can get to know the cats and play with them for a bit. Stop in and check them out. They always have great cats in need of a good home!

My friend emailed this company about taking cats. They may have not got the email. They may have got the email. But the lady at the front desk was so rude and so mean. I will take the cats somewhere else. I was helping a friend get rid of cats that were in a bad situation and the lady was so ignorant. Was telling me i didnt know what i was talking about wouldn't talk to my friend to figure out the issue just wanted to be rude
