Amazing. We got here as soon as they opened and immediately were given a map and some tips on how to best experience the museum. Employees are amazing. The art is so interesting. Free entry is such a treat. You have to stop if you're in the area.

The female security guard is on a power trip and needs to back off and sit down. There are no clear policies for photography stated anywhere yet they expect a massive donation to take any photographs in here. You get enough from donors yet you need to squeeze everyone else. Please, be so for real ✋ I won’t be back.

The Butler has always been a treasure in Youngstown. Dr.Zona - with his genuine love of art- has always succeeded in acquiring pieces for the Butler that other larger museums have desired to add to their collections.

They lack diversity and are not inclusive.

What a wonderful art museum. It’s laid out very well, so it’s easy to navigate and enjoy. They have a broad collection of American art and a surprisingly large amount of pieces from famous artists. The folk art wing was very nice, and the view over the inside of the church was a treat too. I’d definitely recommend anyone who enjoys art to stop by.

I love the Butler. Great museum, big and can spend lot of time here, love that it is free of course, exhibits change frequently and all the art is American.

I am not born and raised in Youngstown. I have a mere 11 years under my belt. But I love this Valley & proudly call it home. And I'm alarmed that many Youngstown natives have NEVER been to The Butler. This museum is first rate and dead red in the center of the YSU campus! Firstly, it LOOKS like a museum from the outside. I dig museums that are in almost garish, funkily designed buildings, as well as hole in the wall locations that are in up-cycled spaces. But the exhibits at The Butler are def at home in a classic, imposing building. The museum is painting heavy, so maybe not the greatest place for young kids. And not being an art aficionado, I find some of the works to be awe-inspiring while others look like they should be hanging by magnets on grandma's fridge. The museum features paintings by a multitude of different artists, among them are some heavy hitters; Winslow Homer, Jackson Pollock (yuck) and Andrew Wyeth. Being a caveman who considers 80's heavy metal album covers the pinnacle of artistic expression, I'm not the art critic you came for. But my favorites include the audiokinetic sculptures of George Rhoads (think Rube Goldberg devices and you'll get an idea) and David Durlach's "Dancing Trees II". It is interactive & looks like a living, breathing entity (or entities) from another world, and I can't help but feel the malice from this piece. Love it.

As a lifer of the Youngstown Ohio area you'd have to be living under a rock to not have heard of The Butler Art Museum. Unfortunately for me I haven't been since 1989. Spent the afternoon taking in all the beautiful works of art. There were so many amazing pieces and some that just sucked me in. Of course I made sure to get a peek of Snap the Whip by Winslow Homer. I also got to enjoy a piece by Georgia O'Keefe, a sampling of Fred Staloff, an amazing depiction of Lincoln by Norman Rockwell, and the John Greenman exhibition. Also to tickle the fancy, we were able to experience work by John Mellencamp and Tony Bennett. The Butler works off of donations and has continued to always provide free admittance to the public as JG Butler had intended.

I took a friend to her first trip to the Butler Institute of Art last week. She was in awe at its size and grandeur. She was only able to see about a third of the museum , but looks forward to returning to see the rest. We both loved the current exhibits, and enjoyed seeing the Wyeth's, Burchfield, Cassat, Rockwell, and Homer paintings. This museum is a perfect place to go for a family outing. It is a beautiful museum that many locals have never explored.

Great museum, I didn't expect such a great collection of famous artists in a small city like Youngstown, I really loved it and I'm looking forward to go back soon again
