This review is not only painful to write, but im sure will be painful to read. I worked at Pembroke Preschool for 7 months, August 2023 through March 2024, and this is my honest review of the center from an employees view. I am going to work really hard to keep my personal opnions and emotions out of this review, and state only facts as to what really goes on at Pembroke.Lucy Miller is the owner of Pembroke, and her and her alone is responsible for how the preschool operates seeing as how she doesn't give any freedom of decision to any emplyees. It is Lucy's way or no way, which fosters zero room for growth, learning, and respect. The employees that work for lucy are over worked, micromanaged, and treated only sometimes with respect depending on the day. Unfortunately, there is a high turn over of teachers at this preschool due to how teachers are treated at Pembroke.Lucy can be incredibly manipulative abd deceitful not only to employees but to parents as well. Most of the parents catch on to this pretty quickly thankfully and I know this because I have had many parents open up to me and express their dislike towards Lucy. What all these parents have in common though, is why they put up with her and keep their child enrolled, which is because of the amazing teachers and how they care for children. The teachers at Pembroke are mistreated daily, yet do everything in their power to make the best experience they can for the children. The teachers work very hard with what they are given. Many of the teachers spend hundreds of their own hard owned money just to keep their rooms up and running due to the lack of supplies provided by Lucy. Lucy can be very unethical when it comes to classroom supplies and the quality of food provided to the children. Lucy is also very blind when it comes to behavioral issues with children. I allowed her to ignore my concerns about certain behaviors I had observed in my classroom becuase i figured she knew more than me. After two weeks at my new new teaching job, i have found that she was very wrong in her words to me. I expressed my concern about the safety of the children in my room due to multiple reason which she blew off. Knowing what I know now, it is incredibly disrespectful and unethical how lucy runs her classroom and moves child room to room based on age and not readiness just so she can add more kids to the program and make more money.A side note, she also has no way to back up a behavior concern as there is no continuing assement being done of the children. She did jusy reintroduce DECA back in which is a wonderful screening tool to gauge cognitive and social emotional skills, but its only a screening or a snapshot, not an ongoing assignment. For anyone who feels upset with me about writting this review, all i have to say to them is the following: Lucy did this to herself, her employees, and the children she promised to take care of. The only reason I worked for her as long as i did was because i loved my kids in my classroom. Unfortunately her verbal abuse got to be to much for me and i had to do what was best for myself and get out of the situation.I still to this day here stories from former coworkers on how their working conditions are still declining. And Lucy, if your upset at this review, as i have told you plenty of times, i dont lie...

Pembroke school is absolutely amazing! Both of my kids have gone here for many years and they absolutely love it! The staff truly cares about each and every child that goes here! My kids have learned so much here, we are so glad we switched to Pembroke! My son needed help with his speech and the staff was more than happy to accommodate different learning techniques in order to help him with his speech delay. Because of their help he has been thriving! When we drop our kids off we are at ease knowing that our kids are safe and loved throughout the day!

I have worked for Pembroke for over two years now, and I must say I made the right decision to come and work here. I have been treated with kindness and respect from Lucy and Kimberly. I truly enjoy what I do and the families that I partner with. As an employee it is a great feeling to love what you do and where you’re doing it at. Pembroke is a caring and nurturing childcare center that I’m truly happy to be a part of.

There is no better daycare, hands down. My daughter thrived while in Pembroke. She came home everyday with a smile on her face. I knew when I dropped her off she would be safe and loved while in their care. They have a learning program that instills confidence and has your child ready to enter kindergarten. Lucy, Kim and all the teachers are amazing!

I am so thankful for all of the efforts in helping me with child care. When I needed them most they weren't hesitant to assist. My son adores all his teachers and has been thriving here. I highly recommend their services.

There is no better place to send your child for daycare/preschool. My daughter has attended pembroke since she was 3 months old through preschool. Not only was she is a safe and loving environment, she was more than prepared for kindergarten. By the time she finished her time at pembroke she was reading and writing at a first grade level, addition, subtraction, etc. I feel so blessed to have found pembroke and feel that the AMAZING staff has made an incredible impact on my daughter.Ms. Lucy the owner has employed the kindest and most loving teachers you could ever hope for; Ms. Kimberly who is by the far the warmest and most lovely woman who has always treated my child like her own. We LOVE pembroke!

We expressed concerns that our 2 yr daughter was repeatedly coming home with bruises on her inner thighs. Shortly after that they would call me twice a week telling me my daughter was sick and I would have to take her to the doctor if she was to return. Every time the doctor would say there is nothing wrong. My daughter then started having constipation issues and they would say I had to come pick her up. After a month of this we finally found a new daycare and miraculously all my daughters issues disappeared. She was at the new daycare for 3 years no problems. On a positive note the girls in the baby room are amazing and we didn’t really have any issues until ourdaughter moved to the toddler room.My daughter would get upset every time i left her at Pembrooke which I shrugged off as normal. After 3 months of the new school this issue also resolved itself.

Just called to inquire about getting my daughter enrolled here. Whoever answered the phone was very rude and once I said I was receiving assistance was ever rider, short, kept over talking me and quickly rushed me off the phone. Definitely felt very discriminated against in the 2 mins we were on the phone. Not people I’d want supervising my child.

Lucy and the entire Pembroke team have been incredible for our young son, Joey. He started daycare when he was about four months old and they have treated him with such A genuine loving and caring nature. Even for as young as he is he always was so joyful and happy coming and going each day. We cannot be more thankful for the nurturing environment that Pembroke has cultivated for our son. We are forever grateful.

My son attended Pembroke for 5 and half years and when it was over, it did not feel like an ending. I feel most grateful that my son attended a SCHOOL and he was academically more than ready for first grade. The class sizes were small and he received a lot of individual attention. The school remained open during snow days when the local schools were all closed. The rules regarding health are inconvenient at any good school and though children get sick often as toddlers, my son had no problems during the pandemic era when he was Pre-K. It’s clear that Pembroke was extra vigilant about cleaning and keeping restricted access to the building. We always felt like our son was safe there. When we were shopping for a school, Lucy and Laurel met with us after-hours and we got a good vibe from them both. Sometimes, a good vibe is the only difference when making comparisons. During his pre-school years, we saw improvements like automatic payments and an app called BrightWheel that kept us informed of daily news.

I should have immediately trusted my gut at my first phone call inquiring about Pembroke school - when I spoke with the owner and she asked about my family I said that I was a single mom - and before I could finish she cut me off and said "Oh, we don't accept vouchers, sorry." As if all single mothers are poor. I am a single mom via adoption, home owner and small business owner and I did my best to look past her poor people skills and judgmental comment and viewed the facility. Although the "class rooms" (a large space split using dividers) are very tiny and seemed much too small to keep a large class of young kids in all day it appeared clean and I needed immediate care for a large opportunity that had presented itself. So we started care the next day. This was my daughter's first experience in day care and I made her aware that like every other child's first time in a setting like this, there would be an adjustment period. She assured me it would be fine. When I picked her up at the end of her first day the teacher was so unbelievably kind to me - reassured me that the issues they did have with her adjusting were completely normal and in a few days she would settle right in. The owner stood alongside this conversation and butted in to say " I can tell you need more structure at home". The teacher was quick to dismiss this comment and reassure me.I decided that evening, after the horrible comments the owner made in our initial call and her judgement of my daughter's first day, to withdraw her from the program. I had pre-paid a $90 application fee and two full weeks of care. She agreed to submit a refund - it has been over two months and I still have not received any refund after multiple requests. If it was not for the owner, I would have been happy to have my daughter stay at this facility for short-term care due to the kindness of the teacher only.

The owner and teachers at The Pembroke School care deeply about their students and the well being of the family unit. They are a pleasure to work with, are understanding and flexible and show how much they enjoy their jobs on a daily basis. The school is a solid start to the education of my children and I'm so glad to have found them.

My son started at Pembroke when he was just 3 months old. I was extremely nervous but the owner, Lucy, and her wonderful staff talked us through everything in order to make us more comfortable. The teachers there are incredible! They keep me informed of everything he is doing on a daily basis and send pictures whenever I'm missing him. My son loves going there and gets all of the love and attention he needs. I am very grateful to all of the ladies who treat him so well and would highly recommend Pembroke to anyone.
