Response to Bill and to the Readers I am trying to protect from having the same experience - Bill - I have never met you, nor have I ever spoke to you concerning my taxes, you were not present during any of the conversations I had with Lesia or your other staff members, however my husband was during conversations with Lesia. We were told on two separate occasions by Lesia that "we did not owe the tax and we were getting a refund" and once by others when I picked up my amended return. I have no problem paying my taxes, you were paid to advise us, and you failed! Never during this process did anyone from Taxes Made Simple mention there was a balance due - EVER! I am not a professional tax preparer, but I am a reasonable person and when you tell me I don't owe something that means I don't have to pay it by my standards! I have never amended a tax return in the 60 years I have had to file- our son passed away and after we filed our taxes the estate attorney advised us to see our tax preparer - this is what created the K1. It was not an omission on our part, just a lack of knowledge, again, I am not a tax professional that is why we pay you to do our taxes. I personally did not see what my son's estate had to do with my return but then again, I am not a tax professional. Mind you this K-1 was provided to Lesia in March, prior to the filing deadline. We amended our taxes prior to the April 15th deadline. Why, anyone would intentionally not comply with instructions that would give them a refund is beyond me - we were told that "we did not owe the tax and we were getting a refund" - I am not in the habit of paying things I "do not owe"! At no time during this process did anyone from your company ask me if I had paid my taxes. I was instructed to let Taxes Made Simple know when I got my refund. My husband and I thought that something that had to do with our son's untimely death forgave the taxes owed (we paid for his funeral and other legal expenses associated to his passing - a tax break in no way replaces the loss of our only son, his absent is felt on a daily basis - we would forfeit everything to have him back). Again, I am not a tax professional, and I was told that the return from his estate amended our taxes. Taxes Made Simple filed our amend tax return and I went to the office to pick up the amended paperwork and pay for professional tax services. At this time, I asked one last time to confirm that we did not owe the taxes. I spoke with your receptionist, who spoke with another female in your office who both indicated that they were not tax preparers and got another female who was to answer my question. She reviewed the documents and again I asked, "so I don't owe this tax and I am getting this refund." She stated that "was correct" I expressed my joy and how this saved us over $6,000.00 and awaited our refund. Again, no one asked if we had paid our taxes! And again, this was prior to the April 15th deadline! We received a letter from the IRS in June - stating that we owed 6,168.00 plus interest and penalty (this was not our original taxes according to your prepared return, which sparks another question, was there an error?). When I contacted her after receipt of the letter, Lesia said, and I quote "I assumed you paid your taxes" - Why would you assume anything when speaking to a layman during an amended tax return prior to the tax deadline? I am not upset about the amount of taxes - (Render unto Caeser), I am upset that you failed to instruct us that we still owed the taxes after the amended was filed which caused us additional penalties and interest, not to mention that we now were not eligible for the refund! She had no remorse, no apology, just an attitude because we did not trust her to try to get these items abated by the IRS. Why would we trust anyone who already demonstrated lack of care on our behalf! I recommended to Lesia that next time she amends a tax return "she might want to lead with "did you pay your taxes"

Very disappointed. Lesia is AMAZING! That's the only reason for even 2 stars. The business taxes took 6 months!!!! And even after that Lesia found a mistake! If you're going there for personal taxes and you see Lesia - you're good. Otherwise - don't do it!

While going through a divorce, my husband decided to use me on his tax return as joint married period no one ever contacted me and asked me if that was OK with me. No one ever got my signature. And they file these taxes for 4 years in a row. My husband had an affair with a woman who had a fairly common first name. The first time I called simply taxes. A woman with that name answered the phone. So whether I was wrong or right to assume it was this woman. I don't know, but the tax preparer ..lesia sent a message to My husband Stating she was aware that his wife had mental problems. I've never been diagnosed with a mental problem in my entire life. I was simply concerned that my taxes had been filed without my knowledge by a woman who had the same first name as the woman he had ruined our marriage over. I would never go back to this place, ever in a million years. And I'm planning on filing charges. Regarding this issue as well.

I found TMS by their sign on Cleveland Avenue. My former CPA retired so I needed a tax preparer. I found Lesia at TMS. She is most friendly and entirely helpful. She prepared our returns in record time and only charged 20% of my former CPA's fee. We are extremely happy with Lesia and TMS.
