Our first experience today with 2 of our pups went great. They were all very friendly and took great care when handling our 2 small dogs. They were all knowledgeable and explained everything well.

I debated on writing this and waited months for the hurt to kind of lessen. My family took in our dog after she started rapidly declining, my father described it as "it feels like she has aged 10 years in 5 days". Dr. Allen was able to see her that day which was amazing. However he barely did a physical exam, did not offer or suggest follow up testing, and informed us it was probably arthritis because she was an 8 year old lab. Very, very, briefly mentioned pyometra but said the timing was off. Did not suggest we go to another vet who could do additional testing. Just gave us arthritis medication and told us to come back in 10 days. She did not make it 10 days. She died almost exactly one week later, shy but just a few hours. I was and am devastated. I would have maxed put my credit card to save this dog, at no point did I tell them money was a concern but they still didn't investigate or act concerned. I naively thought that was a good sign, that we had overreacted to some arthritis. I was so convinced of this I made her an appointment at a place that did a swim therapy thing. I bought supplements that were supposed to help with arthritis. She was living with my parents and I was making plans to have her move in with me anyway but I was trying to find a way to accelerate those plans so that if she needed to see a specialist here in Columbus she could. One week later none of that mattered. My parents let me know that she died in their home. My heart broke. I've never been more devastated by a death. I immediately drove down there, left my class in tears to do so, and decided I wanted to do a necropsy. I wanted to know why she died. Just a month prior to her death I had visited her and she was happy and healthy and jumping all over me. I needed to know what happened to kill my baby. But in order to have a necropsy done I needed the vet clinic to send paperwork as a referral to OSU. They eventually did. It took multiple phone calls and over an hour to convince them to do this. They didn't offer any service to store or transport the body but were sure to mention that OSU had drop off hours for necorpsy on Saturdays if we couldn't bring her a week day. It was Monday. It seemed the person didn't understand what would be problematic about housing a corpse in your house for several days. Even one day honestly. I barely managed to get them to do it in time for me to drive there. Showed up a minute before the drop off for necropsies. And waited. Eventually I got the results and my heart broke again. She died, a likely incredibly painful death, from pyometra. If it had been investigated, and surgery done the week we first took her to the vet, there is a chance she could have lived. And if Dr. Allen didn't have time to do the surgery I would have driven her anywhere, paid any price, to have it done. But I was told it was arthritis based on an incredibly short physical exam. I wasn't told to do anything else besides give her arthritis medication and wait 10 days. I'm not sure I'll ever forgive myself for not getting a second opinion when my gut questioned if arthritis would really be this intense so quickly. I wish I had gone somewhere else. I wish I had had a chance for my baby to live or at least not die such a horrible painful death. She was such a good girl and deserved better than that. It has been months and I still find myself crying over her. So if you go here for everyday stuff they'll be great and do great to work with your schedule. But if you're dog has started acting like something is wrong maybe get a second opinion so you don't end up with the same crushing guilt I am having to endure.

I have been taking my fur babies to Allen Pet Clinic for over 24 years now. Dr Allen really cares for his patients and won't do anything he feels is unnecessary or that could pose a possible danger to older pets. His prices are so much more reasonable than other veterinary clinics in my area. I highly recommend Dr Allen. I forgot to mention that I can always get my pup in for an appointment in a reasonable amount of time.

My only complaint is that they really need call waiting. I can call ten times in one day and get a busy tone everytime. Otherwise great affordable vet! Works with my dog even though she is a handful.
Edit: Call waiting is no longer such an issue now that COVID restrictions are relaxed!
