They helped me by taking in my chickens. The girls were my pets and loved dearly. I cried like a baby giving them up. Happy Trails is a beautiful place.

NOTE: This review will be somewhat lengthy because under the circumstances, context is important. Our township forced us to get ride of our flock (chickens) due to complaint from a neighbor. We were only given 2 weeks to get rid of them or else legal action would start.First, I will start with a positive. The rescue was quick to assist in our forced relinquishing of our flock. They were able to take all of our chickens and even our roosters which was nice. They stated that they would do their best to keep our flock together (which was subsequently not followed). Now, from the very moment we had started the process we had maintained consistent communication with Happy Trails (Audra). When we arrived to drop of our flock we were met with confusion and oblivious demeanor. The two girls there had no idea we were coming nor were they prepared to intake our flock. The drop off was easy enough. One of our roosters died immediately after getting there (no fault of Happy Trails) and the girls let our kids say goodbye and gave a couple of his feathers to the kids, so that was nice. Now, a day or two after dropping our birds off, we had received word that we might be able to get our birds back without having problems with the township (renting land from a neighbor). We kept communication open with the director (Laurie Jackson) and Audra. We told them we would like to get the chickens back if the plan worked. The plan did not work. We, again, kept constant communication open with them, telling them we were attempting to find a way to get our chickens back. A friend said they would keep them on their property for us. The director did not like this idea but was willing to allow it.We had set this plan up, only a couple of days after relinguishing our chickens. The director (Laurie Jackson) explicitly stated that they would not advertise our birds for sale but that they also would not hold them for us. It took about a week for us to nail down a day and time we could get the chickens but we had set a day. Ironically, about 3-4 days prior to our pick up day, the facility put all of our birds up for a BOGO sale (they actually advertised them one time previous to this, about a day or two after initially speaking with th director) and did so across all social media pages that we could see. This went against what we were told explicitly. The reason we were told for this sale was to make room for a large amount of new birds coming in. However, we had already a set day and time where we were going to be taking all of the birds (or whatever remained). They went from having 19 of our birds just a few days prior to their sale, down to 10 birds (26 is what we dropped off).A final note, based on dress, appearance, and communication, the level of professionalism across the board is quite low. When we first dropped the birds off we were met by young ladies, who had no idea we were coming and one of them was dressed in a tube top.All of this to say, be aware that you may not be met with the best communication or experience. Granted, the general demeanor of the staff was amicable but that does not absolve the general incompetence. In the end, Audra should have passed over responsibility to someone else (she had just given birth) and they should have kept their word about not advertising our flock, especially since we had maintained communication and the express intent of getting our birds back.

I recently had the opportunity to volunteer at Happy Trails, and I am beyond impressed. The way they care for the animals is amazing. Everyone there is extremely kind and patient. I hope to volunteer there again soon.

If you have young kids, don’t think twice! Our kids had a great time interacting with the animals, and my wife and I actually got a lot out of the experience as well. Interesting animal facts, heart breaking stories, and unexpected insights into farm animals. If you’re in the area, or passing through, make sure to stop in. It’s a scheduled tour, and closed toe shoes are strongly encouraged if not required based on weather.

We were signed up to take a tour here this past weekend, but it rained and stormed the entire day so we were unable to have the tour. Tried to call the facility as well as reach them on Facebook with no response. Someone did respond a day later on Facebook, but they did not offer to accommodate us in any way. It's not our fault there was a giant thunderstorm over the entire area during the time we were scheduled to take our tour, and it was frustrating that we could not get ahold of someone prior to our tour. But the worst part is that whoever I spoke to never offered us a refund for the fees we paid to take the tour or to allow us to reschedule for another day, and they just stopped responding to me online. It's called a "donation" to take the tour, but you can't take a tour unless you pay and reserve a spot online ahead of time, therefore it's a fee. There should have been some efforts to manage this better than to flat out keep our money without saying anything further to me to accommodate conditions out of our hands because we had every intention of taking the tour had it not been storming that day.

I visited Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary back in April. We went on a guided tour with Lissy. We were able to get up close and personal with the animals (pigs, goats and horses). Lissy did a wonderful job of describing each one of their personal stories and providing us with information about the farm and how it's operated. If you LOVE animals I recommend scheduling a tour and making a donation to this organization. I plan on visiting Happy Trails Farm again sometime in the near future. It was a wonderful experience indeed!

A new update for this public using place. BTW: Why are you asking for money to treat Thrush for the horses hooves on FB? If you cleaned their hooves, you wouldn't have to have Trush buster. You guys need to quit taking advantage of the public and your employees need to do the job they are being paid to do! Their IRS tax 990 for 2019 states they paid their employees $250,000.00 and only spent $75,000.00 on the animals. They make sure every year to spend all the money donated to them in one way or another. Granted, they do beg for your hard earned money and charged you to see animals that they helped steal from indigenous people who couldn't afford to defend themselves in court but that is part of the big money maker Animal rescues are doing lately. They are smart enough to keep their profits around half a million on paper though. They also don't like it when individuals call them out on their hypocrisy so they block them on Facebook. Honestly, it is Juvenile but what more can you expect from the likes of people like this. Their 2020 and 2021 for 990s are not posted on the IRS site yet but I would like to educate everyone out there: every non-profit's IRS income and expenses are on free for everyone to view on the IRS website. All you have to know is to search for their Form 990 with their EIN number and Voila! AWL of Trumbull County works with Happy Trails and they have 4.5 million. Check it out before you donate and think twice. Maybe your family could use that money more.

Worth the drive! The volunteers really were energetic and truly there for the well-being of the animals. Every volunteer I encountered spoke about the animals as if they were their own. Please donate to this facility! Whether it is for the animals or for the new building they are raising money for so the staff can continue to thrive in their environment. My favorite part was the artwork the animals made themselves and the volunteers allowed you to purchase them with a picture of the animal who created their master piece. Everything was super reasonable and goes to a great cause. My 4 year old had a blast and I would be interested in learning more about the sponsorship of an animal. Thank you Happy Trails for standing up against the mistreatment of farm animals and teaching children how to be loving and stand up for a good cause. I will definitely be back again with my son!
