I had a wonderful first time experience with Dollar Rent A Car, so I decided to use them again. The car was nice. I didn’t check the back seat because there was no need. Prior to returning the vehicle I vacuumed it out front and back, and I noticed dog hair in the back seat and on the floor. I also noticed a small chip in the windshield higher up. I returned the car, and I kept waiting for my receipt to be emailed to me like last time. I felt compelled to check my credit card charges, and lo and behold I hear almost $80 over the quoted rental agreement price! I had to go searching for my receipt only to find that I was charged for “damage” with NO explanation of the stated damage! NEVER EVER again will I use or recommend them. If I find my original positive review, I would rescind everything I said about them other than the guy’s customer service being impeccable. This is the first car rental company that I have ever had this type of experience with.

Vehicles are in good condition. However they come up with trumped up charges about damages and email you weeks after you have left. When returning the vehicle, the person receiving informs you that everything looks good without any damage and weeks later an email comes to you that there was damage. I will never rent from them again!

Whoever said this company needs to be shut down made me laugh. My goodness, this place is a mess. The station is is an absolute joke. We felt like we were in the movie “planes, trains, and automobiles” because the lady behind the service counter was just like the woman in the movie from that iconic scene… minus the witty humor. She was just clearly miserable at her job and taking it out on everyone. She was a plump older woman with glasses and seemed to like to give everyone a hard time. My partner got mad at me for renting here instead of a different dealership, but I got less than what I paid for. Never again. Worse than the car that reeked of cigarettes and hadn’t been washed was the customer service, long wait, and awful value for the cost. DO NOT RENT HERE!

I rented a car on April 15 and not only was the car dirty, but it smelled so heavily of marijuana that it made my sinuses burn. I was supposed to have the car for a week and tried to tough it out, but I had to turn around and take the car back to the airport rental at Akron Canton airport within two hours of picking the car up. The associate at the desk told me that there would be an adjustment made at the end of my rental because I made the rental online and there was nothing he could do at the time. I was assigned a new car and, it was dirty, but at least it didn’t smell like weed. At the end of that rental, I went into the desk and the same associate told me that because I made the reservation online and paid for it in advance, I would need to contact Hertz Directly and deal with them. He gave me the name and email of the person with whom I needed to communicate. I have reached out to that person and I have still not gotten any adjustment or compensation for the bad experience. Maybe a one star rating will some attention on this matter.
EDIT: I did receive an adjustment in the form of a credit from corporate along with an apology and verification that they do not conduct business that way. I appreciate the correspondence and consideration, and because of this I am changing my rating from 1 star to 5. When a company sees a problem and reaches out to correct a problem, that's customer service! Well done, Hertz! Thank you!!

Was FORCED to upgrade $40 because the "manager special" was an electric car and the counter person did not know if the electric car was a Hybrid, Plug-in or All Electric. The replacement car smelled like a smoker took up residence! NOW they are hitting my credit card with a $62 fee for something??? Trying to contact them is a nightmare!

TERRIBLE COMPANY. I filled the tank to full upon return and then still charged me $100 for "refilling the tank" after check out. The receipt also says I only drove 207 miles total but I drove from Cleveland to Atlanta and back. Which is over 1,000 miles.

Counter person at Akron Canton was GREAT. The company stinks to high heaven. No way to talk with a counter person, constantly referring you to a website. If you leave something on the car, it's impossible to get thru the web of directories. Can someone contact me about retrieving an item left in the car?

I was weary to use them after all of the bad reviews I read, but the price was significantly less than other companies on a Full Size SUV we needed to rent. Overall the experience was pleasant and smooth. The vehicle, 2023 Suburban, was very nice and clean. Had no issues with it during the trip and returning it was very easy. We did not have any of these surprise fees others have talked about. We paid what it said we would online when we booked. I’d go back to Dollar in the future.

Worst experience of any vacation. First, I called the night before and asked them if I could park my car there, They said YES. When I got there, they said NO! It cost me $132.00 in parking. Second, I told the sales man that I had a lot of luggage; he told me I rented a car that couldn't fit hardly any luggage, and I would need to upgraded to a car that couldn't fit my logged. the next size up would cost me $50.00 a day more! They also charged me for insurance, when I didn't need ask for it. A $408.00 rental cost over "$1,000.00+; "I returned the car full with no issues." They never called me back about my complaints, and Hi-jacked my credit card. DON'T DO IT! They use carnival game and slight of hand tricks to rip you off!

This company needs to be shut down!!! Everytime I rent a car from Hertz or Dollar it's a problem. I reserved a car and when I got there they were closed. This is the second time...I had a 61.00 reservation and ended up paying 243.00 with another company. Don't bother to rent from here.

I first want to just state that I have never complained once in my life about a business or left a negative review… A waitress could give me a raw burger and I still wouldn’t complain… This one though was just THAT bad….. I ended up getting a great price online and ordered online so I went with this embarrassment of a business. When I showed up my price was $300 more than expected, but I needed a car for work. This MORE THAN DOUBLED the price… I told them the situation I was in (my car was in the shop and I didn’t know when it would be done) and they told me I could drop it off earlier if I wanted and get money back. After attempting to drop it off 2 days early they said I would get a whopping $20 back…. TWENTY DOLLLARS…. I spent a total of roughly $100 a day on a car when I was expecting >$30 per day with the price I placed online…. I have talked to over 10 people in customer service just for them to not care at all about my situation. They just said “I can’t help and no one can” “the system makes the prices and no human can talk about it” I really wish I would have read the reviews before this is absolutely absurd…

NEVER USE THEM! I would give negative stars if I could. They lie when you pick up the charge and add a lot of charges they do not tell you about, despite having a previously confirmed reservation. Dollar is owned by Hertz's, they also own Thrifty. If you research the company they have 100's of claims with the better business bureau and lawsuits for adding hidden and undisclosed charges. Tell everyone you can to not use this company to rent a car, even if they are the best price online. My charges ended up being $200 over my reservation price I confirmed online. When you try to call and resolve any issues you have with the charges or company the customer service representatives will not help you or try to make the situation right.
