Our first visit to Mariposa and can't wait to return! The food was fresh and delicious. The menu was varied with something for everyone with any size appetite. The margaritas were some of the best we've ever tasted - and right on the Square in Downtown Newark!

Usually good. Last night chips way to salty (and I like salt) as was the ground beef taco meat. My taco was inedible and received no offer to compensate and others I was with stated same but could eat because it was mixed in with other food(salad and burrito)probably won't go back. like the fact you can reserve tho.

The restaurant was fairly full with a preconcert crowd- we got great service and excellent meals despite the crowd! The creative tacos and tasty margaritas kept us all full and happy - we will be back!

We were greeted at the door by a friendly hostess. Our waitress knew the menu front to back and helped us pick our award worthy meal. People started coming in at 5:30 pm. It got real busy. We were checked on several times. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Strongly suggest you give it a try!

We frequently eat at Mariposa...like at least once a week! The staff has always been super welcoming & the food has always been phenomenal! Our favorite is the shrimp taco- just the right spice & flavors! We can't eat a huge meal & the single taco is the perfect size for us! Chips & salsa are excellent as well! Love the weekly Taco Tuesday new creations! Surf & Turf taco was great, too! Highly recommend!

Finally got to experience what everyone was raving about! Came here as a date and wow, just… wow! The inside is a really cool design and lay out. Staff was very friendly. Avery was our server and do a great job of making sure everything was perfect. The food and cocktail was incredible!Started out with the Queso and a spicy Margarita. Absolutely fantastic. The entrees were extremely well delicious bringing new flavors I have never had.Overall great experience and can’t wait to come back. I think this restaurant has taken first place in my Best Food in Licking county!Parking: Street parking can be hard to find at times and may need to walk a ways.Kid-friendliness: They did have a kid’s menu however I would not be taking our kids to eat here based on price and experience. This is a better adults only spot in my opinion!

I love how many different taco combinations that they have!. The queso dip appetizer was yummy. I wasn't a big fan of the free salsa as it tasted much worse than the salsa at places like puerto vallarta and so on. The other negative is the kids meal cost more than my tacos that I got and my kids didn't like their meal or the mexican rice. So, it may not be a great place for kids, but it is a great afforable place for young adults on a date night and they also have great promo offers. Overall, the restaurant is a great addition to downtown Newark!

Fundido was very grainy and not smooth. Chips were good. We all had taco salads and they were not anything special, beef was very dry and too much cumin. Salsa is very sweet. Service was great. Restaurant was clean and inviting.

Marioposa’s is such a unique setting. Everything is meticulously picked out to set the vibe of an authentic and hip upscale Mexican restaurant. The service was top notch, they offered great recommendations based on everyone’s taste pallet. They, as in management and wait staff made sure our drinks were flowing and that our experience was great. Their guacamole and cheese fundido was amazing. The salsa had a great flavor and you could taste the freshness. My table ordered the 3 fajitas, chicken enchiladas, chicken quesadillas, Sweet potato taco and fried avocado taco. Everyone in my party loved what they ordered. We all commented on the freshness and great flavor for all the dishes. Every meal was amazing. The tequila selection was superb and the cocktails were even better. I had the spicy margarita, which was recommended to me since I don’t care for sweet drinks. It was such a great drink! The pomegranate margarita was also A+. This is my new favorite spot in Newark. Give this place a chance, you will not be sorry!Vegetarian options: Great options!

Took over an hour for tacos. We were over charged for our drinks and never got our sides. Server was great and tried to make up for the mistakes but too much went wrong for us to come back to this place.

Awesome, authentic Mexican in the heart of downtown Newark. Wait staff was great and fast. Food was out quickly and was some of the most flavorful, delicious cuisine we have had in a long time. We would rather go here than anyplace near Columbus. Margaritas were above average and a good size. Street tacos were tasty and the pinto beans are ample enough to share. We will be back and bringing friends with us. Recommended.

Worth the try one time, very interesting twists on Mexican classics. The pozole soup is excellent. Make sure to ask for spicier salsa, it is about a medium but good flavor. The cheese dip for chips was great. Love the atmosphere and music. Food was a bit different than expected - portion sizes are on the smaller size. Very clean and fast service.

My wife and I live in the downtown Newark area & love when we find time to support the local businesses. We just now made it over to Mariposa this weekend. The atmosphere is neat. The blend of Latin art and the traditional Americana bar is a cool touch. Music plays in the background at a moderate level, enough to hold a conversation. The service from the waitstaff was wonderful. Everyone there was incredibly friendly, answered all of our questions, and was apologetic if there was latency with anything. We were provided with free chips and salsa when we sat down. The chips are fried corn tortillas, the salsa was mild, and the serving size was large. These chips were tasty and were a nice complementary touch. We started off with their margarita flight. A blend of salty/sour, sweet, and spicy margaritas (3 total). Each was served in a moderately sized glass over ice & was garnished accordingly. All three margaritas were great. It was a nice blend of different flavor profiles. The only area for improvement would have to be the tacos. My wife & I both ordered two tacos a piece (ranging from $4-5 a taco). The tacos are served on a flat plate, which allows the “juices” to spill out over onto the other tacos. I would like to see these be served in a taco “holder”, so it’s easier to handle. The tacos themselves were tasty, but they were quite messy. The soft corn tortilla shell seemed to fall apart after a few bites. The servicing of protein on each taco was probably only 1 ounce. I’d also like to see a bit more protein and a larger tortilla that can fit more. Adding onto this sentiment, I’d like to see a deal where if you buy three tacos, you save $1-2. I would have loved to get three tacos instead of two, but couldn’t justify spending $12-$15 on only three.I did see some of their other menu items in passing. They seem to have a wide selection of options, some of which looked incredible and were large portions. I’d be interested in trying these when we return.I hope this review isn’t taken as “complaining for the sake of complaining”. There’s many redeemable factors about this new establishment! I would love to see this location correct a few small things and become a staple amongst the other great eateries in downtown Newark.Vegetarian options: They seemed to have a few vegetarian options, I didn’t study the menu, but did recall seeing things labeled as such. They also offer various gluten free options.Parking: It’s in downtown Newark, the parking is incredibly limited. You can park on the west side of the square or park down along West Main and walk.Kid-friendliness: Large wrap around booths make it easy to fit a family of five in the same booth.

New restaurant in the area, owned by the same people who own 1922 on the square. Do not confuse the two as this one has some issues. The atmosphere and service here is very good. Unfortunately the food is just not good. I ordered three tacos of different makes and each was terrible in its own right. The tacos were very basic with few ingredients. Pretty much meat and a sauce served on single tortillas. The meats that I tried (carnitas, pastor, and barbacoa) were definitely not fresh. The meat was gummy and had to be excessively chewed and then had to be swallowed whole. I did not finish eating any of my tacos. We also tried their version of elotes, which is usually a treat. Their version is one cob of corn cut into 3 pieces for $10. It was not good at all. The corn was very chewy and it tasted reheated. In fact all of the food tasted microwaved.Tacos, a single beer, elotes, and cheese for chips for three people ran around $70. So the food was way overpriced for the quality we received.Fancy overpriced tacos can be purchased at a number of other restaurants. Only at other places you might eat all of the food. My recommendation: I would def skip this place until they fix their kitchen.
