Hello. I called this morning after being referred to possibly rent a space for a work gathering. The woman who answered the phone was very short and rude. She told me that the place I need to call is the Community Room and then hung up quickly before I could ask an additional question. I'm not from the area, so I'm unfamiliar with this facility and the Community Room. I called back and asked if she had a phone number for the Community Room, and she said no and advised me to just Google it. When I asked for her name, she replied, "I didn't provide it" and then hung up without saying goodbye. I think basic customer service training and phone etiquette should be provided to this employee. If the interaction is rude over the phone, I can only imagine how it is in person.

Monroe Community Center in Monroe, Ohio holds a monthly auction. You buy a bidding paddle for $2.00 and any additional paddles are $1.00. Each time you want to bid on an item you pay for each paddle you are holding up. Tickets are what you bid with. Each ticket is .25 cents. Some items were one ticket items and others were two ticket items. Each paddle consists of one bid so you much put in tickets for each paddle. There was a lady in the front of the room with all of paddle numbers in a container. After the item is described and bids are placed, she picks out a number in the container. Whatever number she pulls out, as long as that person has paid their tickets for that paddle they are the winner of the item. You can easily spend $60.00 to $70.00 in a couple of hours on the auction. Before I go any further, I do want to explain I was asked to attend this auction by a friend. This friend wanted me to go and observe to see if I noticed what others have noticed. I purposely sat in the back so the large lady in the front of the room calling out the numbers would not notice me watching her hands or her eyes. The number one problem with the whole set up is this lady is the only person who gets the see the number she has pulled out of the container. I watched her several times pull a number out and then look around the room to see who was holding up the paddle that matched the number she pulled out. There were three tables that won 85% of all the items being auctioned off. These three tables were friends and family members of the library and community center employees. The same folks running the auction. There were times the "auctioneer" would call out a number and not even bother to call out a different number on the next item. I counted at least 3 times the woman called out the same number one right after the other in a row, and the winner was the same person as the last item that was won. Folks were yelling "mix up the numbers in the container" as if they thought she kept pulling the same number coincidentally three different times. It was sad and disturbing. One guy at my table said he has been to the auction for 4 months in a row. The only time she calls his number out is when he doesn't place a bid, when the items are purses and jewerly. He keeps coming back every month because this is what him and his brother use to do together every month to relax. His brother died this past June. It just goes to show you. Even in a po dunk town like Monroe, Ohio you can go out for a wholesome and clean night out and still get bamboozled for $50.00 so an auctioneer can make sure friends and family members walk out with all the loot that everyone else in the room just paid for. That was my first and last time to attend this auction. The auctioneer should be ashamed of herself.

The Nathaniel Sackett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution uses the large community room every 3rd Wednesday for our meetings. The library is a wonderful place to meet and when we interact with the ladies who work and/or volunteer at the library, they are very helpful.
