Boy, do these folks ever SUCK !! So much screwing around to get and file claims, reach a human contact, or, most important, get one penny of reimbursement when you finally submit a claim. Eyeglasses for my wife and I were entirely rejected and supposedly were covered in their $200 annual allowance. They will waste your time, provide no payment, and make the process aggravating as well.

My health insurance is considered a “Mercedes” plan. Unfortunately, they went to Eyemed a couple of years ago. The Eyemed plan stinks. Even with vision insurance, I was quoted between $400-$500 for one pair of glasses and they were not designer frames. The last pair of glasses I got two years ago was a simple plastic frame (not a “designer “ frame) and it was over $400 out of pocket. The previous eye care insurance (VSP??) was never this bad.I’m probably going to just go to Walmart or an online glasses company and pay less. Eyemed is ridiculous.

FYI: an Italian company named LUXOTTICA owns almost everything to do with eyeglasses, manufacturing lenses, frames and yes they own EYEMED too. It is a monopoly that the govt will not go after for some reason. Luxottica has forced brands like Oakley and Rayban to do business their way or no way. There is a 60 minutes story on them out there somewhere too. There are some places that are not owned by Luxottica, ******* and ********* **** come to mind. Oh! That 40% frames sale? only good for those without insurance.

Sucks. Plan says exams covered up to $45. However, won't cover refraction charges which are part of exam. Also, covers nothing out of network. Utterly useless "insurance". Avoid.

Terrible. My insurance recently changed their vision plan to eye med. I have never paid more than $40 for glasses and contact exams combined. I took my daughter today and my co pay was $96. Ridiculous for something that a person needs to do to be able to see.

I purchased a plan that allows me to receive glasses and frames EVERY YEAR. In January, I tried to get new glasses, but EyeMed told me I had to wait until July, one full calendar year since I last got glasses. I waited until October and tried again to get glasses. This time EyeMed told me that because I used to be on a two-year plan, they would not cover glasses until two full years after my previous eyeglass purchase. I am on a one-year plan now. I have been paying for a one-year plan all year. In what universe is it okay to hold me to the stipulations of the plan I no longer have?

I was given wrong information by their customer service rep then the next rep I spoke to also gave me wrong info as did the third. Then I sent in a form requesting out-of-network reimbursement due to their misinformation ending up costing me $30 out of pocket for my vision screening and they never resonded to the form nor the attached letter of complaint. I called AGAIN and they promised to look into it. It has been 3 1/2 months with no resolution. I've cancelled my policy and notified my employer how terrible the company is. Check out their D- on the Better Business Bureau website and 1 start reviews leading back to 2020.

Worst insurance ever. Reasons are simple:1. For kids, they allow only one frame per two years. Seriously!!2. In network opticals are pricy like hell, even after the insurance discount, they are too high. It’s just a SCAM!3. If you look for reasonable options outside of network, they will reimburse only a tiny part of it. Still that will cost lesser than the ‘in network’.4. The customer care number is horrible. You need at least 20 minutes to wait to get a human agent in the call and moreover they are very reluctant to assist you.

A simple out of network claim took hours of time, almost a dozen documented calls, countless Customer Care Tickets and claim numbers that change every time you call, and 4 tries at sending a check before they got it right. Each time you talk with someone that answers the phone, explain everything to them, then get transferred and start all over with the escalation department, each time on multiple calls. To save time, one time I asked to go directly to the escalation department, and was met with hostility! Hours of time. Terrible Customer Service. Be aware, beyond the "escalation" department, there is no way to contact anyone in management. Eye Med is owned by Luxottica of America Inc., Headquartered at 4000 Luxottica Pl, Mason, OH 45040 (parent company in Milan). The BBB website is easy to find on the web. A "D" rating. They also own Target Optical, Lenscrafters, Pearlevision, sunglass hut, and contacts direct. I used TARGET OPTICAL with my eyemed insurance. (They are not part of Target). The sales folks there are paid a commission! Often thought of as Semi-medical folks (they are not) recommending prescription products being paid on commission. I felt like it was a gray area of conflict of interest. They are also VERY OVERPRICED. Price shop before going in. See my out of pocket pricing below. Learn the terms and need for upgrades, esp on lenses where they make money. Then be prepared to negotiate like you would at a used car dealership. I didn't do my homework until after the sale, having trusted the employee that told me this was a good deal. After the sale, I found Costco was a lot cheaper, even out of network. I cancelled my order with Target Optical. Since then, Eyemed is now specifically noting in their fine print Costco is "excluded from out of network". Read your policy carefully. My personal experience over 6 plus years of coverage was both Eyemed and Target Optical (Luxottica of America Inc) have horrible customer service, and should be more transparent and forthcoming on who they are to avoid any conception of borderline ethical issues.

My optometrist is required to send my frames to Eye Med's lab per the insurance requirements. I purchased a new pair of frames in January, which took over two weeks to be made. When I picked them up I could barely see out of them and they had to be sent back. They were correct when returned, but I purchased another pair of frames last month (5/23) and they have now had to be returned twice. The first time they put the lenses on the incorrect side and were ground incorrectly as well. Today when I went to pick them up, they were better, but still blurry. Does their lab not have any type of quality control before they're shipped? My rx is strong, and the lenses are progressives, but their lab should be skilled enough to make them correctly according to my rx. EyeMed is another division of the Luxottica Group. So, not only do they own virtually every commercial eyewear company (Pearle, Lens Crafters, Sunglass Hut, Target Optical, etc...) but they also own virtually every line of eyewear (Prada, Kate Spade, Ray Ban, Persol, Armani, Burberry, Chanel, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren...) AND they own Eye Med insurance company. Why this company is allowed to have nearly an entire monopoloy on the eyewear industry is baffling. Federal Trade Commission where are you? I refuse to purchase their frames though. I only buy LaFont and Francis Klein.

Every year my eyeglass out of network claim is denied! Every year I have to resubmit my claim and call customer service multiple times to finally receive payment. It feels like every claim is denied hoping that you will say forget it! This is by far the worse eye insurance company I have ever dealt with!

They will not reimburse if you use an out of network provider even though they provide directions for getting reimbursed for out of network provider. I used Warby Parker for my glass frames and EyeMed refused to pay. They also don't use Costco. They are shills for the limited number of providers that they have under contract. What good are they?

If I could give negative I would. Unbelievable trying to drop them. You have to call and then wait for someone to help you. On hold, got hung up on. Called back, on hold again. Funny if I wanted to enroll they answered immediately but to cancel still waiting almost an hour now. Do not enroll unless you plan to stay enrolled forever. Worst experience ever.
