Although it was quite chilly and rainy, we came in early March for the Maple Syrup Festival. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but from the horse-drawn wagon rides to the samples of syrup in the sugar shack to the complimentary tours of the Louis Bromfield home, I was impressed. Louis was a collector. The house contained everything from Grandma Moses paintings to pieces of furniture dating back to the 1600s to original custom-designed wallpaper. Some of the furnishings were inspired by Hollywood and also by Louis's time in France. He had this huge half-moon shaped desk that he designed himself. This thing was massive. Between the maple festival and the house, there was a lot to feast your eyes on. My 3 and a half year old was particularly impressed with the blacksmith demo, which allowed him to use an old fashioned drill bit and create a little souvenir. He also really enjoyed the kitty cats that live in the barn outside the Big House. Malabar farm has many connections to Hollywood and it was kind of interesting to learn that Bogie and Bacall were married right here at this farm in central Ohio. A couple different people told us to look for Pedro the Parrot in the gift shop. We didn't see him and the employees didn't know anything about him, so I am wondering if perhaps he passed away. Dead parrot aside, I really had an enjoyable day at the farm. I can't wait to come back again and learn more.

My family went to watch the maple syrup demonstrations. We really enjoyed it and learned so much. I would like to go back when the weather is warmer and visit more of the farm.Restrooms: Restrooms were very nice and clean.Dog-friendliness: Several people had dogs with them. It was fun to see them, and they were welcomed there.

Very much a family place. They have $3.00 per person tractor rides that give a history of the farm. History and fun rolled into one. It is a State Park but feels like a laid back adventure. Hiking trails and a small store also. A playground for small kids too. There is a handicap swing for kids, also a plus. Parking and handicap parking. A public bathroom in the main building. Worth the scenic drive.***9/24/2022 Barn Dance and Festival***We made it to the Barn Dance! It was from 7pm to 10pm Saturday night. Lots of families and couples kicking up heels. A few ladies were helping with the line dancing between the square dancing, which the band lady lead. Lots of family fun. I wish this could be at least a quarterly family function. We were glad we went.???

Author and conservationist Louis Bromfield combined several farms to create his home,Malabar Farm, where farming practices were demonstrated. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources adopted the working farm into the state’s diverse group of state parks taking up Bromfield’s banner for natural conservation and proper farm management. The park has programs throughout the year including Maple Sugar festival, Spring Plow days, barn dances, Fall Heritage days, Main House tours and more. Scenic views can be experienced atop famed Mt. Jeez that provides beautiful vistas of the the surrounding Pleasant Valley.
