Oh my goodness, the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio is a local treasure. I'm so happy I stumbled upon this place when visiting Lancaster.First of all: It's free! Admission is $0. Which is really cool, because that means that this awesome place is accessible to so many people. This museum is three floors of rotating exhibits. On the basement level, we walked through an exhibit dedicated to Highlights Magazine. As a magazine editor and lover of Highlights since I was about 6 years old, this exhibit delighted me immensely. I found out that the Highlights Magazine headquarters is actually in Columbus, Ohio -- not too far from Lancaster! How cool is that? The first level and second floor of the museum were exhibits dedicated to local book authors and illustrators, and an exhibit of Brady Bunch movie costumes, because one of Lancaster's own former residents is a Hollywood costume designer. This museum is so random in a very neat way. The docents at the museum are so nice. I don't even enjoy talking to people generally, but I had a lovely 20-minute conversation with one of the people who works here that I quite enjoyed -- we talked about everything from chickens to the weather. Then I talked to more docents on other floors about the exhibits, and they were very friendly and knowledgeable about the things in the exhibits. There's also a gift shop in this museum with lots of fun local products and things like candles, books and knickknacks that pertain to the current exhibits.Basically: This is definitely a must-visit spot if you're in Lancaster! It's the perfect place to visit that will have something for all ages (my kids had a great time), and you can learn a bit about local Ohio history.

The admission is free and donations are accepted in this wonderful museum that has different displays. I saw the Christmas artifacts of the past as well as the Distinctly Paramount Fashion & Costumes exhibit. Both were interesting and well done! I highly recommend visiting this museum.

It's a small museum, but they fill it as much as they can, and seem to change exhibits pretty regularly. It might be a little tricky to get around if you're disabled, but there is an elevator. There's also a gift shop.

Recently visited to see the Paramount costume design exhibit running through January. We signed up for the curator-led tour and so glad that we did. He gave great details about each of the pieces, and how/why they were chosen to be featured, as well as the actors that wore them in the films. I could not believe how tiny the actresses must be to have fit into the garments! The waistlines were so small. The exhibit was nicely laid out in different rooms by color themes, and had good signage to describe each piece. He mentioned they would be having a Victorian Christmas exhibit there in December, and I cannot wait to visit again at the holidays. If you have any interest in fashion, this is a must-do.

This is originally a house that is now a non-profit museum and it offers classes and exhibits. Come and visit and you will see a lot of costumes from movies like Zoolander 2 and the Elton John movie. There are 4 new exhibits every year and you can't miss the Christmas ?⛄ exhibit that will come later this year.

This Greek inspired home is stunning. You can really tell the difference between this home and the Georgian (which was visited earlier in the day). The tour guides on each floor were great to help understand certain unique furniture pieces or information about the family that lived there. The art exhibit was really cool to walk through as well. All in all it was a great experience.

Great tour of house and art gallery. Like the variety of art that is presented at various exhibits. Tour guide very knowledgeable, and shared many stories of visiting the house when it was a home and she was growing up. Made the tour even more interesting to hear her personal experiences.

What a wonderful museum.!!..We have visited multiple times and every new exhibition is a delight and eagerly awaited. The present show of dipytichs and triptychs was fascinating. The collection of works were expertly curated and offered many different takes on the concept of multiple images and objects around a central theme. .. Really thought provoking and enjoyable to view. The museum is in a lovely old historical building in the center of Lancaster and a true Ohio treasure!! Admission is free and the docents and volunteers in the museum are extremely knowledgeable and so very kind and patient! They spent so much time with us explaining the history of the building and then the intricacies of the individual art works that we felt truly blessed to have visited when we did ( and yes they are all practicing proper covid protocol) Don't miss this one !!
