Excellent experience! Had great conversation with the owner and the order was filled above and beyond. Highly recommended if you have a need for a small town butcher. It was worth the time and the drive to pickup my locally fed 1/4 beef!

We are a retailer and us and the farm we buy from were both lied to multiple times when setting up the appointment and ordering the cuts about their level of inspection. They are not licensed for retail sales, they are only licensed for home consumption. They told the farmers that they were usda inspected and could sell across state lines for retail sales and they told me that they were Ohio state inspected for retail sales. Neither is true, and when you call the Ohio Department of Agriculture they will tell you that. Imagine our surprise when we showed up to pick up the meat with no labels at all, no state inspection sticker, not even the cuts labeled, no count sheet with poundage detailing what you get back, and it was not vacuumed packed as promised but was shrink wrapped which meant it was freezer burnt. Not to mention the place was filthy. Do not believe anything Doug tells you. No ethics or integrity.

Small, local custom butcher. Bought 1/2 hog and they asked how we wanted the meat cut, answered questions, easy to deal with. They prefer cash. *I'm editing this to add more info. Just used Vonderhaar's again. :Last year I ordered a half a hog and the meat was excellent. So this year I got a whole hog. The fee was higher than other butchers, but most others didn't have openings for at least a year, while Vonderhaar's was able to get the hog I ordered done 4 months out (YAY!). The meat filled my 7 cubic foot freezer, which is what I expected. Lots of sausage, and plenty of other cuts too. I just ate a bone-in pork chop. It was thick, with a rim of fat, and sooo good. The person I worked with on the phone at Vonderhaar's was polite and answered questions. Next time I will ask for some of the bones for the dog, and some good fat to try my hand at lard.

Beef was packaged and labeled very nicely but we feel were were drastically shorted on the amount of meat we got back. Had a different butcher for a 1/4 of beef before and it filled our garage freezer completely plus part of the house freezer. When we had Vonderhaars butcher a 1/4 for us, it only filled two shelves in the garage freezer. It was less than half the meat we usually get from our other butcher. Spent way too much money to get hardly anything back. Very disappointed.
