I became a Suburban Propane customer by default…the company I had was purchased by them…I am a small user of propane but the cost is still substantial for a single income…I signed up for budget $55 a month which also signs you up for auto fill…my fault for not reading the fine print…my payment went from $55 to $105….cancelled budget so I thought but showed up today and filled my tank without my consent…charged me $4.59 a gallon…other companies are at or around $2.50..I checked…now I either have to pay in full in 30 days or stay on budget and allow them to fill randomly causing my bill to increase…I will start planning now for a change next season…they are not a good company to service your propane needs. I can’t vouch for others but I don’t have the resources to come up with the amount they want in 30 days especially when I had no idea they were filling my tank in August.

Suburban is the biggest joke of a propane company in the country. They prey on victims that just pay bills without questioning anything.
Here’s my story:
I found that Schafer was selling their pre buy program at $1.75/gallon. So I called in to suburban on 6/6/2024 after my contract was expired for the 2023-2024 year, to cancel services. However, I wanted to get credited for the 400 gallons in my tank. Well, come to find out, they take a $95 pickup fee, transportation fee, and a $1/gallon pump out fee. Plus I lose my $300 in credit I still had on the account. We ended up having a heated conversation as it’s extremely frustrating watching $1k just disappear for no effing reason. In the discussion I told the lady that I’d disconnect the tank when I was done using the propane. She then tells me I cannot touch the tank as I’m not licensed and that it’s a safety risk. Okay. I get that. So I ask if they can leave the tank since there is 400 gallons in there until it’s closer to empty, then I will call and they come pick it up. The lady said that would be fine. Well, come home on 6/20/2024 and the tank is gone. Got a call on 6/22/2024 after leaving a voicemail. The just of that conversation was “you threatened to disconnect the gas line posing a safety threat to you and your family”. Suburban, if I am a safety threat, why TF did it take you 2 weeks to come take the tank? Why did you leave my family in such great danger for two weeks? Why wasn’t a sheriff at my house that night when I got home to contain the “safety risk”? Ridiculous. You did the exact same thing to a neighbor of mine a few years back, so it’s not a safety concern. Is a spiteful revenge tactic.
Oh, got another issue, if I’m such a safety threat to society and my family, why was your tank set <10ft from my propane generator with a combustion engine and Ignition source and left there for 3 years and numerous fill-ups that none of your techs found? See pics below. Sounds like you left my family in much more danger than I could have possibly ever done.
This issue will be escalated unless I receive my full payment back. That is credit, and full cost of the fuel you removed from my house. No fees applied. There is no way it’s fair for you big companies to just screw people over out of spite.
Update: now that you have replied. Please give me a call within 48 hours or I will be submitting this same review to the Attorney General. All I want is my money that you have clearly stole from me. 6/26/2024 6:21pm

Suburban Propane (SP) has been incredibly responsive to my needs regardless of whether the issue concerned my propane tank or soft water conditioner. And speaking of the latter, a couple of years ago, the water conditioner tank that I was using went south on me. SP dispatched a technician to repair it. He said that I had an option of having it fixed or replacing it for a marginal additional rental fee a month. I chose to have it replaced and it has saved me a great deal of money as I don't have to fill it with salt anywhere near as often as the old system. Thanks for looking after your customers SP!

Suburban Propane is amazing. I want to give a huge shout out to the servicemen that came out to my property, Sean and Mark. They handled everything with a professional manner and figured out everything that was needed to get my house set up with propane. I also want to give a huge shout out to Ann, in the office, she has been a saving grace throughout the entire process of getting everything set up, including with pointing me in the right direction of local community resources to help get us started with the process. Thank you so much to these people and the company. I'm really happy to be apart of the Suburban Family. Y'all are amazing!

Just got a bill for $4.599 per gallon when the going rate regionally appears to be closer to $2.72 per gallon. Will be changing suppliers. Wish I'd done it sooner.
