I was all for supporting local businesses, so I chose to have my taxes done here. I was new to the area and figured someone local would have my back and know all about the city tax laws that were new to me. However, on one occasion he tried to apply a deduction to my federal taxes that I was ineligible for. I had to research on my own to time and contact my previous tax professional to convince him we could not take the deduction. Now two years later this decision is still haunting me, as I was audited by Columbus and asked to pay the taxes that were rightfully theirs as well as a $120 penalty. Even though our agreement said he would pay penalties for errors in my return, upon contacting him he refused to pay the penalty citing it was an error by my company and not his preparation. I would recommend doing your own taxes, as I was able to catch the error the next year with zero tax background or maybe use a big company that has some real liability for their errors. Hope this helps in your decision.
