my boyfriend and I were recently looking for a cat and decided to stop in! we loved the concept of being able to go in and pet cats in an open area but upon entering it wasn’t like we had imagined. The smell was horrible. I have been to other adoption centers where cats roam freely and they had no scent. This made me worry for the cats that were living there. After walking around and looking at many of the cats, it was easy to see that they all looked pretty sick. Most of them had runny noses and watery eyes or were constantly sneezing. It made me concerned about having them in this environment because the sickness can easily spread. There were so many people in there we could barely move around. I think this is a great concept on paper but not when it comes to the health of the cats. So many people were in there just petting the cats and taking pictures with them and kids running around. In summary, it made me concerned for the health of the cats

I have donated several hundred dollars worth of food, litter, toys etc here over the years recently just donated several bags of litter toys high end food ( $80 a bag) and even medical grade rx only food for the medical side of this place. Never again. The staff is rude and mouthy… I met one very kind person here and I am grateful to him for his kindness
I don’t trust these people after an incident this week. When I went in there was a cat who was gasping for air and had its tongue out and the woman didn’t even care or even look at the poor thing. It seems like most of their cats are very sick and I get their rescues but it was overwhelming how bad off most of them were. The people here treat you like an ignorant child but can’t even keep up on their cats..After looking at the reviews I see that my perspective is valid because others have expressed the same issues. There are so many places that you can donate/support/adopt from and this one isn’t it.

A lot of cats. All in a colony. It’s a cute colony of cats, if you will.

I got my cat in May of last year. I applied, received an email letting me know I was approved, and then came in to pick a cat out. I've had cats my entire life and really prefer playing with them before picking one out. The cats roam around the shelter, which means you can interact with them easily and play with multiple at once. I really liked this. There are separate rooms for kittens. I went around the shelter and interacted with a bunch of different cats. They do have a few shelter type cages for cats that misbehave or have to be separated for some reason.
The cat I chose was in one of those cages. After reading his little info card, I asked if I could get him out, and the volunteer I was with said yes. She also nicely explained why he was in there. He had been provoking the other cats and told me he needed to be the only cat in his new home. I picked him up and that little sucker practically hugged me. I was sold, especially after realizing he was also playful. His eyes were a little crusty, but I wasn't really focused on that.
They gave me all of his microchip and medical information they had. I took him home. He was super social generally but was mad at us after we got home from work. Turned out he had separation anxiety. We made the decision to get him a kitten, and they were glued together from day 1. It also turned out that he was especially a stinker on occasion because he has asthma. After that was resolved, he stopped lashing out. The crusty eyes turned out to be an allergy issue.
Overall a lovely experience and process, and they gave us the info they had. It just bothers me that they told us he needed to be the only cat when he very much needed a playtime buddy for behavioral reasons.

I am so tired of this place. My daughter volunteered for them 10 years ago and it hasn’t changed. We continue to go back and share love of the cats and consider adoption. However, everyone that I have always encountered rude and disrespectful. It really blows my mind. They have closed the sign 10 minutes early in front of our faces and told us that we weren’t allowed to come in. They told us that we need to say our goodbyes if they don’t want to be there they shouldn’t be there.

Wish I could give ZERO or NEGATIVE stars! Rude, snotty, employee upon entering barking at me to hurry up and close the door upon entering! Why are you allowing cats by the front door where people are entering and exiting! Place is too narrow and small for the amount of people in there. Was not warm, fuzzy, or inviting. No one introduced themselves or asked if I had any questions. When I tracked down an actual employee, they had next to no information on the cat I was interested in! I wish I could rescue all of the cats from this place. One and DONE, will never be back, and will NEVER refer anyone.

I love the idea of this place but after applying I was reached out to by whoever approves applications. Person was rude and ignored certain questions regarding what info I am trying to send over to my homeowner. Sad to see I fell in love with a cat and put in so much time and effort into colony cats just to be blocked by their poor communication, disregard for my questions, and rude nature.(the following picture is an example of a question intentionally ignored by their approval agencies)

I love this place. If you just want to pop in and pet cats for therapy go for it. But it will be hard not to take one home! There cats are literally everywhere so be careful going in the door and walking around. It smells a little bit in there because of what it is but they do a good job keeping things clean considering! I also brought a cat home from here and their adoption process is very comprehensive and fair priced.

I haven’t adopted yet, but the volunteers are so nice and there are a million cats to pet! Great facility.

The amount of time this organization and its volunteers spend rescuing cats and dogs is totally amazing to me. The care and compassion for the animals is 2nd to none, they truly love the animals and put them first. It is incredibly difficult to raise the funds and find volunteers willing to day after day keep a rescue like this going and Mona and her crew are true angels to this animals. Looking for a place to volunteer or a great charity to donate to Colony Cats appreciates the help!

2 years ago I adopted Buddy, formerly known as BooBooBear, the best cat ever from here! He’s so sweet, kind, loving, playful, funny. He takes to new environments so well. Everyone who meets him loves him instantly. Like his name, he is the best buddy ☺️

I adopted a wonderful cat, Kasper (now Simon) from the Kitty Bubble Cafe through Colony Cats less than three weeks ago, and he’s such a delight. He fit in with my other pets almost immediately, and I think the cage-free environment certainly contributed to his socialization and easy transition into his permanent home. I would recommend adopting through Colony Cats to anyone!
