Absolutely beautiful. Bishop Fernandes has done a great job of leading this place to truly embrace the New Evangelization. Its recent renovation has made its architectural and liturgical style come alive in the perennial tradition of the Catholic Church. If you're looking for a spiritual home at OSU, this is the place.

The people who are posting bad reviews are non-students who attend the Newman center church. Since the Paulist Fathers left, the majority of mass attendants are students, which creates a "less welcoming" environment for non-students, but a significantly better experience for students by allowing them to be surrounded by and motivated by their peers to grow in their faith. The Newman center is supposed to be first and foremost for students, not just anyone living in the university area. Additionally, the student population is much more traditional and practicing Catholic than the Paulist Fathers were, so I guarantee you the bishop's decision to remove them was due to student complaints, which are and should be of more value than the opinions of non-students for a church that is designed SPECIFICALLY for university students.

When the Paulist Fathers managed this facility for the last 66 years, there was a spirit here that welcomed and involved the community in so many aspects of the church ministry. The music was great and the choir and the band was upbeat and joyful. The Paulist Fathers were asked to leave on July 31, 2022 and a new priest appointed by Bishop Fernandes was asked to direct this facility. Needless to say, the spirit is gone. Attendance is a fraction of what it used to be. Time to find a new place of worship.

I visited the St. Thomas More Newman Center [across the street from The Ohio State University campus in Columbus] on 7-9-2022 for my final visit there before the Paulist priests [who have operated the Newman Center on the OSU campus since 1956] will have been removed from the Newman Center staff [on 7-31-2022] by the new bishop in Columbus.I have been "a friend of" the Newman Center for many years and have attended many fully-welcoming-and-inclusive events there over the years. The Newman Center has been a very important part of the "religious community" in the University District for many years.Last Saturday's visit to the Newman Center had been one of the very few times in my life when I have attended an "actual" Roman Catholic Mass.Since I am a Quaker who is used to sitting quietly for one hour, "listening within," and being open to the possibility of being "led" to speak a message to the others in the room, the loud music -- plus being expected to stand up so much of the time -- had not exactly been fun.I finally decided to sit down for the remainder of the liturgy after I had noticed that the violin player [one of the members of the "band" or "orchestra"] had been sitting down the entire time.Throughout its history, the Newman Center has fully welcomed and affirmed people who have been excluded by many religious groups [including the Roman Catholic Church itself].There are many long-term members of the Newman Center community who I am certain will be needing to find a new spiritual home on August 1.

I visited there for an interfaith prayer service. Everyone there was very welcoming to people of all faiths. The sanctuary is lovely and was apparently decorated for the Christmas season.
