I took my wedding dress in to be cleaned and pressed before my alterations appointment. As I got it on consignment, I figured cleaning it was wise. My dress has a intricate embroidered lace overlay, but this place is very well reviewed and has the word “lace” in the name, so I had no worries about it.I picked up my dress and the ends of the embroidery are completely frayed, and in a noticeable way. I returned to the store to ask what could have caused this problem and if there was any way to fix it. The gentleman told me that he’d “never” seen this happen before, and basically told me that my dress is defective.I am not a dry cleaning expert, but it seems to me that there is no way that this place has been cleaning wedding dresses for 60 years and has never come across an embroidered lace dress. If the employees at this business had the experience of cleaning dresses like this and seeing it go awry, then I should’ve been told not to have my dress cleaned. What is more likely: that my dress was so unusual or something that they had never cleaned something like this before? Or that someone screwed something up?I asked for, and was issued, a refund, but I feel like it should’ve been offered to me right off the bat.I am not a Karen, and I normally take stuff in stride, but this is my wedding dress. Anger isn’t even my most overwhelming feeling right now...not to be melodramatic, but I’m pretty depressed about this. Every bride wants to feel perfect on her wedding day, and my dress WAS perfect. It was everything I could’ve wanted. And now it’s not. The fraying isn’t a minor issue...it’s all over every inch of the dress, and it’s noticeable. I’ve attached a picture that shows just a fraction of the fraying in one small section of the dress. I had a perfect dress that I loved, and Columbus Lace messed it up. I won’t be so extra as to say my wedding is ruined or anything, but to all the brides-to-be looking for a cleaning service: you’re taking a gamble here. I sincerely hope you have better luck than I did.
